Mercedes GP MGP W01

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Ohh they covered the engine with a plate.
Looks much cleaner than the redbull one.

Moved the Heidfeld conspiracy posts to the Pirelli thread:

Hope we can just continue discussing the actual Mercedes car again
(thanks for the images 747heavy)

The internal engine cover is a Mercedes feature I think. Certainly, McLaren have the same thing on their Merc supplied engines...

The Mercedes F1 team may soon have to turn their attention to making some changes in personnel.

That is the warning of Mercedes motorsport vice-president Norbert Haug, amid reports the Brackley outfit are now working almost exclusively on its 2011 car.

"We hope to return to success," said Haug. "However, if we fail to achieve the goals we have set, we may have to change some people."

That's yesterday's news JET, thought you were on NH's mail-list by now? :o

But changing technical staff once you're xclusively working on the 2011 car doesn't make much sense, does it?

maybe he was talking about track engineers and decisionmaking? I feel MGP W01 sucess was quite often hampered by not so good Pit strategies ,less than perfect car preparation (cross weights in car for Qualy),not getting all out of the package..etc)
this cost both drivers some valuable points .

Perhaps it's about time to revive this thread again, in time for the upcoming GP. What's the consensus on the W01 will perform at spa?

Kneejerk reaction would be that it will get a whipping, whatwith the long straights and low top speed. But it went pretty well at Silverstone, didn't it? It was one of it's best races, in fact.

Will any upgrades of significance be present? Or should I say, will they work... :|

This thread should only be about the Mercedes car. If you want to discuss how it will perform in Spa, it should be at the race forum

Any updates for Spa, low downforce package or something? Is there any hope or will it be hopeless once again?

Sorry, still relatively new here. The race forum? Which one is that? Do you have a link? There seems to be so many overlapping threads it's impossible to distinguish which one is the appropriate one for a specific debate.

MercGP car thread
MercGP team thread
MercGP race thread

The mind boggles....anyway, so will someone point me to the appropriate thread specifically on how the MGP W01 will perform at Spa?

One can but hope. IIRC they didn't run their newest package at the last race because of some problem. Perahps they sorted it out to work fine?
