Please somebody save us, Lets fill the calender with more crap track.Ecclestone to rotate tracks on calendar?
30 March 2006
Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone came up with another idea in Melbourne to make Formula 1 more interesting for the fans. He is thinking about rotating the tracks F1 will visit and tracks would only host a race once every three years. This way Ecclestone expects the tracks to make a bigger hype out of the event.
The current season counts 18 races, but it is very likely to have 20 races in 2008. Venues now receive multi-year contracts when they close a deal with Ecclestone, but that can soon be changed.
Ecclestone revealed that after watching the Commonwealth Games closing ceremony, it occurred to him that many races lacked big-event hype because they were held so regularly. "You know, maybe it's because we are at the same track every year and it's the norm," Ecclestone said. "Maybe we'd be better off to have a lot more countries to visit and have the race every three years or something like that, so every three years they can make a big hype out of it."
