As far as I'm aware, homologation just means to "agree" on something, so something cannot be homolgated unless it's passed it's crash testing. This means that HRT might have the ability to correct their new front wing, and then get it homologated. Seems only fair to me.

Good thing that F1 is the "Pinnacle of Motorsports". Maybe HRT is doing this on purpose. Maybe they really DO have 2 cars ready and are just pretending to be a garbage team that isnt even up to GP2 standards. Maybe.

2011 Predictions for HRT.

-Will not get 2 cars for Quali 1
-Will not take part in race due to 107% rule
-Will not race after Australia

What´s the situation here? Was theer not talk to ban them for cost reasons?
I know that it was meaned to be last year allready, but Bridgestone and the teams objected for safety reasons.
Now with a new supplier, it would have been a good time to make the switch.
Anyone can bring me up to speed, as what the current situation is?

Some stated, that the "homologation" of the chassis/tub was scraped for this year ( dunno if this is the case or not), but if it´s the case, it would be "strange" to still have a "homologated" nose cone (for cost reasons) - IMHO

AFAIK it´s the nose cone, that´s subject to the crash test, not the wing as such.
But it´s conceivable, that the new front wing is designed around a specific nose cone (shape).

It wouldn't be allowed on the track if it didn't comply fully with the safety tests. So they are ok i think.

Ringo, the whole point is that HRT seem to have a new and old front wing. We saw the new one at the launch, and we see the 2010 (old) wing here. SO the 2011 one hasn't taken the track yet

So, the questions on the front wing shall be answered;

1] Has the nose box failed crash tests? A: that is strictly confidential, but im sure a reporter could get it out of someone. It is possible the new nose box is failing crash tests and the old one still complies.
2] Has the wing failed homologation? A: Front and Rear wings don't have homologation or crash tests, but have Load Tests in scrutineering, don't they???
3] Why have they used the old front wing? A: Validation, wouldn't you want to baseline against a known value than a unknown???

Its not the first time that a cars nosebox has been right down to the last few hours before they were bolted on to the car, Red Bull with the RB3 was failing crash tests right up to 3 hours before Quali in 2007 for rear impact structures. Same team a year on couldn't get the nosebox certificate through until 53 minutes before Quali at Aus 2008. It was that tight for them. Spyker failed their crash tests for the F8-VIIB in 2008 and had to wait for 2 more GPs to get Sutil onto a B Spec for Belgium.

Its nothing to be worried about for Hispania, other better off teams have been through worse.

The filing of the crash tests is nothing to be worried about, or in general HRT is nothing to be worried about?

I'd agree that the crash tests is no big issue, but the team in general has serious issues.

Obviously not a good start for HRT. Race participation is precarious.

On a positive note they did complete more running than Karun Chandhok.

I have a feeling that Hispania will be either taken over or be gone mid season now.

I really hope im wrong, but its not looking good ill admit.

Im really hoping their plan for the rest of the event is for FP3 to be the shakedown, get Q1 out of the way and get in the 107% rule and then for the race, get both guys doing a test programme each.

If they get to Turkey with 5,000km on the clock i think they will be in better shape in Spain when they have their first ever proper update.

Enough of this conjecture. Here is the straight poop:

USGP has NOT disbanded. They have merely changed their name to HRT. We can now see the result of USGP throwing their full technical and financial weight into this new effort.

Seriously, this is beginning to look like a real disgrace. (I hope to be proven wrong.)

I think we all want them to stay around. More cars the better. Unfortunately things are looking bleak.

There is a reason the have no sponsors. Who would want to sponsor that? The cars do get a lot of tv time but that is when the catch on fire, crash, or are sitting in the garage.

Lets be realistic though. Of the 3 new teams, two are at least decent. You can argue their quality but at least they have their cars running. And in reality, 2 out of 3 new teams being decent is good.

Agree: 2 out of 3 is a reasonable definition of success, BUT Vurgin is 6+ seconds off the pace so far. . . Let's hope they find a big improvement in pace.
