I'll let you guys in on a little secret. The US audience was exposed to revisionism. I've seen it many times before, and ABC does it mercilessly. And unfortunately, it goes unnoticed and most are unaware because few have the chance for comparison. But here in Canada, on close to the US borber, I am fortunate that I get a lot of different feeds. I got up early to watch the live feed (which everyone in the world gets at the same time, identical in all nations) and the NBC feed which was aired about six hours later. The broadcasts aren't the same, they are quite different, and the latter is definitely scripted. You see, the live feed is put out.. "live". The NBC show is taped, they make up a little script, and then the video is altered. During live feeds, the networks have to take what is put out by the Italian director. But other video is also shot, it's just not shown live. But NBC does get it's hands on it, and when they do their broadcast, a lot of that is slipped in instead. For instance, when Ide punted Albers off the track, the NBC showed a totally different camera angle that distincly shows that Ide just plowed down the inside, and nailed Albers. On the live broadcast, there was some playback, but nowhere as good an angle.
So the entire NBC broadcast, although in the guise of breing live, was totally scripted . And the annoucers, don't believe for a second they are calling it as it happened. They inserted the audio after the live race, and thus their comments almost appear omnipitent, because they already knew what was going to happen. So right from the first minute, you could know the outcome, based on who they focused on.
It's slanted journalsm at it's worst, it's revisionism, it's pretending to broadcast live when the announcers already know the outcome. It's the typical drivel the US audience gets whenever they see anything that isn't fed to them 100% live as it happens. It's sad an pathetic, and it's very a very common thing happening in the USA.

Do you know what the Mexicans say? Poor Mexico, so far away from God and so close to the United States...

You are right: it is normal for "dead" (as opposed to "live") broadcasters to try to impress you by "guessing" what is going to happen. I also think that my "gringo" friends are excellent when you talk about camera angles and editing. You should see the late emissions they make in Colombia...

Are you all telling me there were more than 2 cars out there today?

The Italy company doing the footage really need to sort themself out. Yes there was a good fight up the front, but i am sure there were some good fight else where. looking back, i dont think i saw a single clip of a BMW all day. Once RB stop i never saw him again ether, the only time i saw kimi was at the end.

Apparently the last 3 races where done by bernies tv company who own all the graphics and stuff.

Talking about the live feed, it is ridiculous in every broadcast made in Italy how much they focus in the Ferraris and mainly Schumacher. Sometimes, it seems that is a race of Ferrari against all others. It goes just to show one of the worst things in italian culture: their self-centeredness... in the end of the race, we saw Schumacher crossing the finish line and then the broadcast went straight to Massa mentioning its fourth place. It seemed that all others were sidekicks in a Ferrari show...

dumrick I agree.

It's funny, but has anyone seen an overtake today? Forget the backmarkers...

:D
The trouble with the rat-race is that even if you win, you're still a rat.

Dave, Was it NBC or CBS? I had it on CBS, did you have it on NBC?
Simon: Nils? You can close in now. Nils?
John McClane: [on the guard's phone] Attention! Attention! Nils is dead! I repeat, Nils is dead, ----head. So's his pal, and those four guys from the East German All-Stars, your boys at the bank? They're gonna be a little late.
Simon: [on the phone] John... in the back of the truck you're driving, there's $13 billon dollars worth in gold bullion. I wonder would a deal be out of the question?
John McClane: [on the phone] Yeah, I got a deal for you. Come out from that rock you're hiding under, and I'll drive this truck up your ass.

Yup, and to the rest of the world, Italian direction looks third-rate. But it pleases the locals.

Well... if I ever become a broadcast director I'll know now how to make a formula one race seem boring. It was so frustrating not seeing any of the other scraps.

The one thing that todays race reminded me though is that Imola is an old style circuit. With a modern F1 car one would have to drive 110% to pass anyone. Tamburello (turn 1 & 2) seems to be the only good passing opportunity.

Imola is a very nice circuit, but it needs more than just one passing opportunity on it. Well, two if you count the pits. It's interesting how its design is so restricttive that even creative passing opportunities are non-existent. Ah well, I only know it needs more than updated garage facilities and a wider s/f straight. They could benefit from widening it here and there as well.

CBS isn't as good as Speed coverage, but at least they don't have James Allen running his mouth off the whole time. I never really think about the coverage, as long as the race is good I could care less.

The Italian coverage, on the other hand, was a joke. I didn't know there were only two teams in F1.

Well in India we get race coverage on Star Sports and I really find it outstanding. Commentators Chris Goodwin and Steve Slater really do a nice job

In Malaysia we use Star Sport as well, but sometimes when heavy rains falls the TV becomes blank

We should ask Bernie for Spike Lee at the next race. I guess he can pay it... and the publicity stunt would be great.

If we are complaining then other fans are and I but you other people in F1 noticed it too.
