Right, but the wires are still around the edges only, right? Not densely packed like on a rear window, so as to not be visually obstructive. Non-issue, though, if the entire sheet ends up getting heated up eventually.
Sounds like the aircraft windscreens, in your link, are maybe what the lmp cars would use these days. Vacuum metalized conductive layer on acrylic/PC. Would make sense, if conducting enough heat from perimeter heater wires across a large sheet of plastic is not effective.
