In my opinion Jean Alesi was a very good driver who wound up for too many years in an uncompetitive car. For many years, he carried the flag for Ferrari when they had a crappy team and a crappy car. He drove his heart out for Ferrari, and to be honest, he displayed a loyalty to Ferrari that was unbelievable. He drove his ass off, he took the car to it's limit, and tried to maximize what he had. But bad luck, or sometimes a mistake, or more often, just a crappy car kept him from wins. If he had been driving another competitive make, he would have easily had over ten wins to his credit.
I watched all of his races, I cheered for him enthusiastically, I shared his letdowns. Jean Alesi was a very nice person, a great driver in his era, and was loyal through and through to Ferrari. The trouble is, he was loyal to a losing team, which is reflected in his record.
It's a shame when younger fans who never saw him race, or followed his legacy, even worse so-called Ferrari fans, slam a man who bled Ferrari red, and proved over and over to everyone he was one of the best drivers and human beings during that era.

in my opinion some of the ferrari fans are guys who just look f1 and say; hey red is a nice colour, and wins too! I'm the best Ferrari fan ever! I pray that Ferrari will not win so those guys will have to find a other hobby, And real Ferrari fans (those who know the history can watch the sport) will have more fun

I'm not a ferrari fan but aware that they have a huge history and great drivers only not my favorite :P

I had the luck to watch Alesi from his first until his last race. I rated him very high. His only problem was his love for Ferrari. I have no doudts that he could drive for McLaren or Williams... And yes, I cannot forget his feelings when he finally won a GP. Do not forget that some people rated him very high (some of them even at the same level with Senna), at wet conditions...

I agree... I still remeber that race from 1995 (Suzuka) when on wet Alesi charged from 15th on lap 7 to 2nd on lap 12, and was fighting for the lead when retiring with broken transmission on lap 25. Hill, Schuey and other drivers seamed like stuck in 1st gear while Alesi was flying and overtaking one by one just like that...
In the race - started in damp conditions with the whole field in wet tyres - Schumacher was again dominant. He got ahead at the first corner and quickly built up a commanding lead. He was helped when Alesi was given a 10-sec stop-go penalty for jumping the start. Jean pitted. A lap later he came back in for slick tyres. It was a risky move but Jean was soon making huge progress as the others were still messing about on wets. Alesi survived a spin when he was driven off the road by a hapless Pedro Lamy and his next laps were such that by the time Schumacher had stopped for his new tyres, Alesi was only six seconds behind - and closing. He was soon on Michael's tail and there he stayed until the Ferrari engine went bang.

I've found why GF made so much mistakes up to now! He hadn't promised not to do so:

We should start a game, trying to figure wich excuse GF will use for the next GP. This time it was traffic. I'll go first, betting for barcelona it will be, mmmm, lemme see, understeer!

For newcomers in the GF game, here come the list of all his excuses, wich are so numerous that manchild could not put them all on his uniform:

Brakes
Cluch
Fuel rig
Mechanical failure
Mechanics (in the pits)
Oversteer
Suspentions
Transmition/Differential
Traction
Traffic
Tyres
Understeer
the weather
the Bad luck

If I don't forget anything, you have a 1/14 odd. Good luck

Would have been a different story if he had gone to Williams for '91.

Imagine what would happen if Tyrell had Honda V12 or Renault V10 when they intorduced high nose? That was best chassis but with bad engine.
