Ferrari F2012 (pre-launch speculation)

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Oh, OK, so they're going to race Darth Vader's mask this year. Must have been tough to keep it within the rules, well done! ;)

Honestly, it's just F150 It.

The sidepods certainly aren't what the 2012 Ferrari is supposed to have. I see nothing different from the F150 Italia.

And the nose is too high, by far - 100% the 2011 car...

Front right suspension looks broken. Unless it's set up for an oval :)

Many doubt about that, because with current nose height the angles for the pull are not workable.

If low nose and/or chassis double keels extensions are not viable paths...

Would keels be prohibited by the new no bodywork rule for that area? If not, keels could be used as vanes (has been done before).

if the keels are moulded as part of the tub then there is no problem.

"bodywork" refers to add on's

I am not so sure. If you bond a body part to the chassis is it now not part of the chassis and not a body part anymore?

I don't look forward to see the new car.
Only a few hours and we'll know if these speculations are true or false.
I'm positive. Maybe too.

Does this mean that now FIA mandates super high bulkheards with zero-keel front suspension and low 'croc noses'?! #-o

Please explain. I am missing the logic of the statement.

If the tub (and keels) is considered bodywork, then it's supposed to be very high to be clear of the no bodywork area (see drawing above). The opposite is true for the nosecone.

I ..THINK.. this has something to do with allowed openings is the body work. You could lower the 'solid' nose section into this area if you desire. The rules are not simple reading in this regard. I am open to learning the details.

The tub can be kinked down over the no body work area below, and then drop away – this avoids the croc nose, a'la McLaren.
