JET - I wasn't commenting on Red Bull vs the field. I was commenting that Vettel in an RB8 on hards, on a 24 degree track surface, came 1.4s away from the 20.9 pole time of the 2011 RB7 on softs, on 40 degrees of track temp.

I still don't know where you all get that 24C° track temp .

16:14 Track temperature: 9.6°C
16:13 Ambient temperature: 12.1°C
14:20 Track temperature: 9.7°C
14:20 Air temperature: 13°C
12:38 Track: 8.9°C
12:38 Air: 11.8°C
09:14 Track temperature: 2.0°C
09:14 Air temperature: 4.9°C

I just like to know . Can somebody give at least a link ?

And FYI; I actually meant that post. a 1:23 from any car; taking maybe 1.5-2 off for the blown diffuser; is quite a feat.
Than you should have written it chief!
Oh no did I use a derogatory term for a Native American, or was I suggesting that you are a man of authority. Here try this one Joey. They use it a lot in New York City. "Get outa' here"!

Was it 40 degrees?

BARCELONA TEST DAY FOUR
MONDAY 21 FEBRUARY, 2011
21 degrees track temps according to Williams.

Oh and The quickest time of 1.22:625 was set on the fourth day which is 6 tenths up from today...the first test of the day.
Everyone is holding back and these 2012 cars are quicker then the EBD loss would have us believe.

The last temperature point they made: 15:27 The track temperature has dropped a little further, to 23 degrees. Just 10 in the air. And for humidity fans, it's 36 per cent.

Yep - pole comes from qualifying; not tests

Because I'm trying to compare how close the RB8 laptimes we're getting in testing are to on-the-limit laptimes of the RB7.

Compared to the max potential of the RB7; if we normalize the difference between the soft/hard by 8 tenths; which was Pirelli's intention for 2012; that means the time difference is 2.4-0.8 = 1.6s. (I made an error above - it should be 2.4 difference and not 1.4)

And that's without EBD and with a very cold track surface.

And it would be distorted because Red Bull don't run test programmes during GP weekends.
I think you would learn more by comparing the RB8 to the RB7 at exactly the same time in their development process. Also, conditions would be similar as I have shown.
Not only that, but isnt Pirellis harder tyre different this year?

This site is what I use for kart track weather conditions, but it also covers F1 circuits.

http://www.myweather2.com/Motor-Racing/ ... rcuit.aspx

Has a track temp chart tab also.

Better to compare to a benchmark that you know what they're doing; rather than one that you don't know what they're doing

I don't think so to be honest. The RB8 is probably closer to a Brazil-spec RB7 - EBD + butchered nose than it is to a test-spec RB7.

Paul Hembery states the harder will now be 8 tenths (which is the number I used) slower than the softs
