I should have shot more at PLM, but the audi guys kept stuff pretty hidden. If you are needing exterior reference photos why not use the 8mp output from forza 4? Could be a easy way to form accurate front, rear, side and top views.

Yeah man, I'm continue my work at the R18. And it's quite hard to imagine the inner shape ot the monocque... (It begans with the direction of the CF structure and ends with the pedal arragement.) Somewhen the next day, I'll update the report.

Does anybody know if the R18 has a semi-automatic gearbox like F1 cars? I think so, but don't now it.

hello i dont know how reliable this is but i read this while researching LMP 1 for my own design.

"These Audi R18 specs featured with new six-speed sequential manual gearbox that support the 3.7L V6 engine."

That's for sure not true. The Audis press manual said that gearox is (sequential) controlled by levers at the steering wheel (like F1).
I only don't know, if the clutch has really a own foot pedal. I've 330mm space for 2 or 3 pedals, compared to F1 with 250mm and 2 pedals. Some publications said, that the 3rd and 4th lever at the steering wheel or the R18 are for the lights...

So, if someone has better information, please reply to me!

huh? sequential manual gearboxes can be controlled by padels behind the steering wheel, you basically said what i said ("new six-speed sequential manual gearbox") but said what i said is not true lol

theres 4 padels behind the steering wheel. 2 for gear changes (up and down), one for lights and one for pit lane limiter. everything i'v seen says its manual so im guessing they have a foot operated clutch since there isn't room for it on the steering wheel

Huh, sorry, I wrote a bit of a ---. For sure, the grearbox is controlled by the levers at the steering wheel (that was true I've written). But yeah, I wasn't sure of the pedal for the clutch (is it there or is the clutch operated by another device). Now I've found out art. 9.5 of the ACO regs, clutch have to be operated by drivers feet!

Hello Guys!

Today I finished the inner structureand carbon fibre coating of the monocoque. It's a bit tricky to get the parts in that way to look like one single part after glueing them together. For sure I try to glue the carbon fibre sheets in the right direction. But especially of the footwell area there exist no(!) photos. I took help from the R15 there.

Nothing changed at the outside.

The three parts.

That's it for the mo, thanks for watching.

Hi Paul,

Your RB7 was amazing and i'm really looking forward to watching the progress with the Audi. I wondered if you know of any on-line resource where i can read up and learn some cardboard modelling techniques?

Cheers and keep up the good work.

Sorry Daniel. I've no idea. All my skills I've learnt by doing (by myself). I'm also at a german cardboard-modelling forum, but I really don't know if there is something what can helps you:

In small pieces, the progress of the R18 is coming. The reason is, that I try to improve the quality I've reached with the RB7. Therefore it takes time to build a pedal, a brake master cylinder (not to mention a fire extinguisher).

As you can see, the pedals and the fire extinguisher are mounted.
Image

The fire extinguisher is finished with a clear lacquer. Very good felicitous are the round ends of the body. The extinguisher itself is fitted to the monocoque by two metal stripes. I couldn't fint pictures of the R18s extinguisher, so I orientated at the R15.
Image

I think now it's time that you can call me freak, nerd or whatever comes in your mind. The fire extinguisher is gone and about three hours of work are covered by a paper sheet. But with my current knowledge, I can't take the responsibility for leaving away the extinguisher.
Image

At the end a picture of the backside of the pedals - no fear, they can be seen through the big hole at the front of the monocoque with removed front bodywork. The two master cylinders are mounted, but the front one isn't connected yet. Brake bias adjust system is electrical I think, so I've to detect a place for an electric motor.

That's it for the mo, thanks for watching

Very impressive. Detail down to the double shear mounts on the master cylinders.
