Don't expect a tremendous amount of iterations to the FW , kinda glad he's gone from Merc.bhallg2k wrote:....
True, but top aerodynamacists are hard to find. I'd rather have someone like Allison or Prodrodmou but it seems it is hard to pry these guys away from their respective teams.bhallg2k wrote:Does Bigois have a claim to fame, so to speak, other than the BGP 001?
I don't want to jump to conclusions, but - I am anyway - I don't see anything on this guy's resume that sticks out as a "ooh, I want that guy for my team" kinda thing. His arrival at Williams roughly coincided with its fall from grace; he didn't make a mark at Honda at all; and it's difficult for me to give an abundance of credit for the BGP 001 considering the rule shift for 2009 made it inevitable that one team would hit the nail on the head and stand above the rest. To me, what's more representative is the fact that the BGP 001 got steadily worse as the season progressed.
That car won the championship only due to its staggering early-season form. By the end of the year, it was maybe the 3rd best car overall. I think that's a pretty damning piece of evidence in terms of Bigois' ability.
I'm hoping that Ferrari's claim of having no deal with Bigois is true.
I'm not sure why you feel like he has to have a claim to fame? There are many good Aerodynamic Engineers in F1 who don't have a claim to fame. How did Prodromou do when he has "Head Of Aero" at McLaren with the MP4-21?? I'll let you answer that one.bhallg2k wrote:Does Bigois have a claim to fame, so to speak, other than the BGP 001?

No, and that was really Zander's car. As soon as he left it went downhill.bhallg2k wrote:Does Bigois have a claim to fame, so to speak, other than the BGP 001?
The rumour last year was that Hennel had replaced De Luca as head of aero. However, from what i can gather from the Italian papers, it seems that Tombazis is Chief Designer and is also managing the aerodyanmics department. I imagine Bigois' appointment would take some of the heavy workload off Tombazis.Crucial_Xtreme wrote:I'm not sure why you feel like he has to have a claim to fame? Mercedes/Brawn never had aerodynamics as it's weakest link like Ferrari do. Which means this is good if he comes to Ferrari. The fact is he's a good aero engineer and his contribution will be welcomed. In an area where the team is the weakest, more experience won't hurt the team should he come. Unless the F2012 takes a serious downward turn throughout the rest of the year, Tombazis isn't going anywhere and will remain "Head Of Aerodynamics" so bringing in a big name like Newey or Prodromou wouldn't go over so well especially with many still angry over the Costa decision.
Also the Brawn declining throughout the year isn't any indication of his abilities or lack thereof. A lot of it is down to money and the other teams simply catching up. But the head of aero doesn't determine which direction the cars development goes, thats the technical director & designer. How do you know he didn't bring some designs forward only to be shot down from the TD or designer? Like with the MP4-21, it was Newey's design but Prodromou was head of aero. Anyhow I'm not sure how you think another solid aerodynamicist isn't needed in a team that is lacking in said department. It baffles me that because he isn't a big name, we don't need him.

Edit: It should also be noted he is rumored to be taking over wind tunnel development for Ferrari
