Authors: Micheal Costin and David Phipps
In about 1967 I bought this book. I lent it in about 1990 and I am still
waiting for a kind friend to return it. Well --- it became an obsession to find another copy. Sites on the net list it from $180USD to $2100USD.
Why is it such an important book? It was written by Micheal Costin
( Cos(worth ) while he was a designer at Lotus --- Mr Costin also contributed or designed the first aluminum monocoque while at Lotus: the
Lotus 25. This book is the authority on spaceframe design. To quote from
the Preface "...and Keith Duckworth, who helped with the compilation of Appendix 111 ... " If anyone would like a copy... for $28USD , search
http://www.abebooks.com Contains technical anaylsis of all engineering aspects
of spaceframes and suspensions of the day, construction details and material specifications and the Appendix 111 written with Keith Duckworth which offers the necessary math equations. Want to learn suspension load paths to chassis? This is the book to get. There's a wonderful illustration of the chassis and and "invisible" body of the " Birdcage " Maserati , The Masaerati Tippo 61 --- This alone will justify the purchase to your companion. Whats not to like --- non?
