Agree. SLR i don´t really consider a product of Mclaren.
I read that they weren´t exactly happy with Mercedes either, which probably was the starting shot for their own cars.
the F1 was more of a project of Gordon then a full onslaught of getting into the car business.

The MP4-12c is the first "real" car from Mclaren Automotive.

But anyway.. With a technical centre like that they must be making money by other means that just road car and sponsorships.
Several different applications have been found for the software McLaren use for data gathering, among which hospital and airports have been reported on. I'm sure they make licensing money from that and some level of consultancy money as well.

I find it interesting in that regard that McLaren are seen to still be running Windows XP, while at least some teams have migrated to Windows 7. Interesting because hospitals and airports aren't notable for being on the cutting edge when it comes to upgrading their software and operating systems. So perhaps because of their own environment, McLaren's software has an edge when it comes to licensing opportunities like that?

Most big companies I know still using XP, although they use Win 7 for new PCs. But for the existing one, they don't really upgrade it just for the sake of having the latest OS. But all depending on what they required. XP and Win 7 doesn't really have big gap in terms of basic feature and functionality that generally used at work. So sticking with XP is normal.

Have to say, the pit stops from McLaren, now they've "ironed out the bugs" are most impressive. It seems like they consistently hammer out sub-3 second stops every time.

If you're into political humour...you would understand Mclaren are attacking the FIA clamping down making Formula 1 dull and preventing drivers to "go fast", slllllooowwwww.....

HAHAHAHA.

So do I, but if it turns out that he isn't and LH does in fact make the move across silver cars then i guess we can work out exactly what motivates him.

If he wants to be regarded as one of the 'best ever' and win multiple championships as he has intimated many times in the past then Mclaren who are consistantly winning and consistantly building great cars (and, lets be honest, the last 3 have been, it's just that the RBRs have been excellent!) have got to be his overwhelmingly best option.

If he decides that he fancies an easy ride to £10m+ a year whilst sitting in a car that since its conception as Mercedes (one race notwithstanding) hasn't ever looked like challenging for wins let alone titles, then good luck to him but i'll have lost a lot of respect for him (which is obviously more important than the tens of millions of pounds, the supermodel girlfriend, the Monte Carlo mansion and endless supply of supercars :D )

The team is not McLamilton, they have lost huge stars in the past and not blinked an eye. And besides, it's not as if the pool of drivers is running dry at the moment!

I think this all is just a bargaining move for the new contract with McLaren. Lewis has nowhere to go. First of all he is a pure McLaren product and will face hard times in another team. Secondly Mercedes probability of suddenly becoming a title contender is extremely low. If he goes there I think it will be Nico who will happily offer his services to McLaren.

Agree. He may end up over-driving a slow car every season, and involve in many conflicts with fellow drivers whilst he's there.

Agree 100%, I'll loose a hell of a lot of respect for him if he is only going to be where the money is, JB proved back in 09 its was the racing he cared about, Hamilton is already starting to show it's about the money, where else could he go? I don't think Ferrari will take him, but what about Lotus, I don't think Grosjean has a safe seat especially after Spa, Maybe Raikonnen and Hamilton could swap?

I'm just speculating, his only real option is McLaren without looking like a Gold digger

You guys forget, Mercedes will be much stronger in 2014.

Engines will be more prominent than today, and Aero less prominent. McLaren can no longer justify spending £60 million on a driver, Mercedes with it's AMG arm can do just that.
I still belive that Hamilton is twisting McLaren's arm over this, and he will likely stay. But, if McLaren think they can get him on the cheap because there are "no alternatives" as some have said, then they may just find themselves in a spot of bother.

Well they aren't consistently producing title winning machinery though are they, that's the problem. In Hamilton's time there have been three, 07, where they didn't win it, 08, where he won it, and this year, where a large number of blunders have blunted his challenge. He's had as many dogs in that time.

To put this potential move solely down to money isn't fair. Merc have a bigger budget, manufacturer engine supply (Mclaren have to pay from next year) and lets be honest, with that team of technical minds I wouldn't bet against them producing a good car next year, which will be the first worked on by the new team from the start.

Historically, Mclaren are the safer bet, but this isn't about what's went before.

Mclaren have opened talks with Perez after talks with Lewis reach "crisis" point

http://www1.skysports.com/formula-1/news/12433/8082846/

What happens if Mercedes do re sign Schumacher. Would Mercedes then do to Nico what Ferrari did to Kimi. Pay him to go away ?

Or could we even see Lewis go to Lotus ? Crazy times, cant wait to see what happens!!

Doubters that Hammy will stay put, take heed. Not that this is conclusive, it's certainly not, but there are many reasons and motivations for LH to go to Merc. This wouldn't be the first time Macca has let go of good talent.

MSC/HAM pairing would be something!
But I reckon Lewis will be at McLaren for 2013, for a 1 year deal and then off to Mercedes when the Turbo's kick in. Perez to McLaren would cost a fortune, Sauber have him locked down and He is a Ferrari protege.

From What I'm hearing, what is holding up the drivers market is Schumacher's insistence on an option for 2014. Not enough seats at Merc for that, but Rosberg could be getting the heave in order to accomadate MSC in 2014. It will all unravel this weekend, but things could accelerate if ROS is unhappy with the situation.
