Advantages of cascaded (front) wings

Indeed. Given the neutral AoA, though, I think that was more about support for the wing than for flow control. It allowed them to run the cascades without BMW-style supports mounted directly to the wing. McLaren took it a step further with the bridge wing. That supported both the cascades and the whole wing as it flexed under load.

Incidentally, I really miss watching those beautiful cars.
