And singapore isn't... What are we supposed to be observing as a similarity?
Who said anything about a similarity?

I just find it funny when people criticize Singapore then bring out the most boring layout you could ever design.

The issue at hand has nothing to do with how the track looks on paper, it is the races it produces.

Montreal may "look" boring, but it consistently produces spectacular races year after year. Singapore, aside from reliability and race incidents, does not.

I do appreciate the inclusion of street circuits in racing, however I really feel that modern day F1 cars are simply not suited for them. These cars are A) too fragile and B) too aero dependent to really bring out the best of what street track racing has to offer. See GT racing in ALMS around the street circuits or the V8 Supercars around Surfers Paradise for examples of what I mean.

A modern day F1 race around a street circuit is boring as a spectacle, and this coming from someone who absolutely loves Monaco. When you can stay out 5, 10, 15+ more laps on tyres which are 3-4 seconds a lap slower wihtout having to worry about being overtaken, there is an issue.

I felt the race was great in Singapore. Lots of action and battles.
The entertainment we got at Canada this year was Hamilton passing ALO VET twice in a DRS zone.

I take it you mean when the asphalt was crap like in 2010 or when it rained for 5 hours in 2011?
Those things you can apply to pretty much any track out there.

Bone dry Canada is about as entertaining as every other track.

I think what I was trying to get at is Singapore may be the most polarizing racing circuit on the grid. Just look at the poll results, it is just about split evenly between people who like it and people who do not.

I reckon a similar poll done on Montreal would result in a more skewed result. To be honest, the only circuits other than Singapore that I can see with a similar polarizing result would be Monaco and Abu Dhabi. I still find it unbelievable that starting from a blank slate, the best they could come up with was that layout :?

The Singapore circuit was far from being perfect when it was first raced but they made a number of improvements since then. It is still very bumpy and has no fast corners but is has produced some decent racing in my view. It is a challenge for the drivers and the cars which is a feature that is not present in some other GPs. On top is has become the Monaco of the east in terms of people of the region's preferred meeting place. The place is ideal in terms of the F1 logistics. I'm confident that it will have it's place on the calendar for many more years to come.

What about using F1 race thread view and discussion count as a poll instead?
