I still admire Alonso for his driving but all his antics since 2007 make it hard to like this guy anymore.

I disagree. The internet was going crazy the days after the event and FIA did not clarify anything officially.
So Ferrari simply requested an offical clarification on the matter.

They did not say "ohh Vettel cheated, hang him!!" they simply wanted clarification and rightfully so.
If Red Bull and Vettel is butt-hurt for that then they should grow thicker skin.

They did not try to take anything, it would be IMPOSSIBLE to do, surely you must understand such a fundamental thing?

Without a case there was nothing to clarify!

only because the internet and ALO himself go apeshit FIA has to do zilch, nada, nix, niente.

It is more like hard core "fans" ultras and a player go the their team boss and tell him to act. Exactly that happened and Ferrari did and asked the FIA which clarified. Really embarrassing for Ferrari. Disgracing the sport (again) but this time because of the Internet, the press and a sore loser "star" driver.

Excuse me, but in the video which caused the stir the green flag was indeed not visible. So from that video it seemed like it was illegal overtake. That's all.

After the buzz on the internet and the shitty video that did not show much to begin with.

Again, do you understand the word clarification? Do you truly understand it´s meaning?

Are you always trying to not understand words in order to continue a useless discussion?

Ferrari wanted clarification from FIA, what is the problem? Do you honestly think they can change results even if the facts say otherwise?

He can also impregnate your wife from a hundred yards.

Why xxxxxxx is a poor sportsman.

Indeed, a thread borne of bitterness.
LOL, planet f1.......says it all, absolute nonsense. The sheer amount of paranoia surrounding Fernando is staggering, if you believe this kind of press, Fernando Picks the drivers at Ferrari, Fernando told massa to take the gearbox penalty, Fernando vetoed Perez because he was afraid of him ( ) Ferrari didnt want to protest the result but Fernando forced them into doing it, Behind these scenes Fernando is furious with Ferrari.

It's a bunch of nonsense by two bit journos who havent got a clue what goes on inside ferrari, this is why Fernando came on twitter, one because his ex wife suggested it to him and secondly he uses it to dispell any fake stories from the press about what he gets up to outside of the car.

Bottom line is this. Fernando had his best season in years, he is the highest paid driver in the world in the best team in the world, a team that would do whatever it takes to give him a title and this team is an extension of his family. He also has the full backing of the president who is one of the biggest alonso fans on this planet and has cult hero status amoungnst the tifosi, he drove a great season last year through a divorce which obviously broke him in half, and he has now found love again with Dasha, he is fine, his life is fine, and as soon as Ferrari deliver the best car he is going to be close to unstoppable.

Simple as that.

Let's be fair here. Had Ferrari felt RBR & Vettel were 100% innocent, then they would have told the world, "we feel Vettel is innocent." They look like good sports, and given that they felt Vettel was in the clear anyway, they wouldn't have lost anything.

If they were unsure, they would have asked for clarification, but they could have said "asking for clarification whether or not there was a green flag on exit of T3 on Lap 4" rather than "asking for clarification on Vettel overtaking Vergne." - but they didn't. It's clear of course that the ultimate goal - if in fact the move was illegal - was to penalise Vettel. Let's not kid ourselves.

But a large part of it was, first and foremost, a PR nightmare - from what we know, they were asking whether the move was illegal, as opposed to whether the green flag was. There's a subtle - but very crucial - difference.

@Cylinder

Exactly why I posted the "impregnate your wife at hundred yards" comment.

He apparently is not only a poor sportsman, but will sleep with any journo willing to put out(female).
Can't help feel this is british media hyperbole at work....

they wanted a clarification to suppress the negative yellow flag mania and to avoid an ongoing PR desaster. They did not protest on sunday they did not protest entirely. They just wanted the shitstorm to stop, so they asked for clarification because the press, the internet and their sore loser star driver drove them to the point to do it.
