Mercedes AMG F1 W04 (pre-launch speculation)

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Any indication whether Mercedes have dumped the trick suspension that seemed to cause them so many issues last year, in favour of a more conventional setup?

Now way of knowing this early. We know it was hard to set up, and there was some correlation between the suspension and tyre wear.
Mercedes cannot afford to have a complex head scratching gizmo, nor is it the way Aldo Costa works.

If I where to guess I would say the suspension will simplified for easier set up.
The 2012 system was different from other hydraulic interlinked systems in that it was rumoured to be linked front to rear as well. This is the simplified W02 version, which I would guess Mercedes would revert to for the W04 to keep things less complex.

I agree with Foxhound. It would be smart to simplify the suspension, so that it works and saves the tyres.

Packaging will be key this year. Aldo can run the same easy-tire set-up he did at Ferrari...and maybe Ferrari ran an interconnected system. Either way, they will have the DDRS piping out of the way and a rumored sleeker rear gearbox.

I just hope there able to keep pace and develop through the year, im sure they can come out the box with a decent car.
The past 3 seasons they've lost ground as the years progressed and have shown an inability to solve problems.

I hope they considered the possibility of tilting the engine the way current renault engine is tilted in RedBull car.

I know that I angered the Mercedes fans because I was frustrated that Hamilton left Mclaren, but in reallity I can't stop supporting Lewis after all... I will support Mclaren as a team and Lewis asa driver. And I recognised this because I want to talk to you about Mercedes car seriosly. And I repeat, I'm sorry for those comments anti-Mercedes.
What do you think, seriosly about W04? Cand it be a car with which Lewis can secure a place on the front-row in Melbourne?
After all top-teams using pull-rod suspension and different front-end solution (somewhere in the dark except Ferrari) I think that Mercedes is not so back on the foot. If they get sorted their Coanda exhaust they should be in the fight. And what do you think about that Mercedes found 1.5 seconds before Christmas? It is that possible?
Another question is that if their ultra-compacted gearbox cand make such a huge advantage for the rear of the car?
But the most important question is about their wind tunnel... I read that Ferrari's problems has the origin in the moment they upgraded the wind tunnel changing from 50% scale to 60%... Can it be the case for Mercedes? After they changed the scale, did the wind tunnel gave advantages?

@MercAMGF1Fans

Thanks. Do you think that as all front teams going for pull-rod suspension and practically changing all the mechanichs and aerodynamics in the front of the car, will mean a relative equal chance for the teams in starting a new chapter?
What do you know about the performance of the improved wind tunnel in Brackley?
I would really love a Hamilton championship title despite supporting Mclaren as a team [-o<
