Vergne has been by far the better race driver, despite Ricciardo's over inflated opinion of himself, but even Vergne hasn't stood out that much. The Torro Rosso drivers simply aren't up to the job.Cam wrote:We only have to look back at the 'Hamilton' rumours last year to see how RedBull feel. The answer is in here, in Horner's words:

What are you basing "The Torro Rosso drivers simply aren't up to the job" on exactly? Their race results? Qualifying? What? If you are, then you are not using the measurement for success that RedBull themselves have stated publicly they use.munudeges wrote:Vergne has been by far the better race driver, despite Ricciardo's over inflated opinion of himself, but even Vergne hasn't stood out that much. Vergne is Buemi to Ricciardo's Alguersuari.Cam wrote:Vergne hasn't been as good with the media I think. We barely see him anywhere. He gets next to no tv time, no right ups, and hasn't really become a 'personality' in the paddock. He's not had one standout result, that I can recall.
And yet, Ricciardo is beating Vergne fairly handily this year.Jonnycraig wrote:Vergne is Buemi to Ricciardo's Alguersuari.Cam wrote:Vergne hasn't been as good with the media I think. With regards standout results, running 7th in Malaysia and keeping it on the track on inters was incredible. In Monaco he stopped first of everyone and drove from last to 7th. Even this year in Australia, he was consistently in the top 5 in Q1 & Q2 until sent as a guinea pig on slicks costing him a Q3 slot.
Brundle has consistently said he thinks Vergne is more likely to graduate to RB. Of course this doesn't mean anything but its certainly interesting.

It's 3-1 because Ricciardo has finished in front of Vergne 3 times, and behind once.Jonnycraig wrote:Vergne easily outraced Ricciardo in Australia and Malaysia, Ricciardo in China (although Vergne spent 40 laps nursing a damaged car) and Bahrain where Vergne was taken out on lap 2. Struggling to see personally how you've made it 3-1 Ricciardo in races but i'll bow to your superior knowledge.
Then it's even less impressive that he's not finishing in front of Ricciardo in racesWith regards qualifying, anything but 19-0 would be a surprise. Vergne has stated he sets up the car to save the rears in the race at the sacrifice of one lap speed.
Vergne finished infront in Australia and Malaysia.beelsebob wrote:It's 3-1 because Ricciardo has finished in front of Vergne 3 times, and behind once.
Agreed, hence saying above I personally expect Raikonnen to go there.wesley123 wrote:imo they both are far from good enough.
You're right, I'll update my post. Ricciardo is still both outscoring and out qualifying Vergne though, so he's still substantially up.Jonnycraig wrote:Vergne finished infront in Australia and Malaysia.beelsebob wrote:It's 3-1 because Ricciardo has finished in front of Vergne 3 times, and behind once.
Unless of course you are considering the race to finish at the point Ricciardo's exhaust broke - 10 seconds ahead of Vergne but either a pitstop behind or the longest stint of anyone in the race on hards ahead of him. This despite Vergne losing 30 seconds in the pits![]()
Looks like 2-2 to me, but again I bow to your knowledge.
Source"Many drivers want to drive for Red Bull, and we have two very good juniors," he is quoted by APA news agency at the Red Bull Ring circuit in Spielberg, Austria on Monday.
The 'two very good juniors' referred to by Marko are Toro Rosso duo Ricciardo, 23, and the similarly-aged Frenchman Jean-Eric Vergne.
"In general we are happy with both drivers," Marko said. "Ricciardo is currently the better one. Vergne is too impetuous, asking too much of these sensitive tires in qualifying."
