Old style sensor on the front wing? Why?

The old wing that they are using doesn't have the sensor built in

I thought that the UK-D-HUN front wing 5th flap has that config to ensure less front-downforce and better flow to the rear, so why using the old 5th flap config (pre UK) that (in my thoughts) gives more front downforce?

I do understand a single flap can't explain the performance, but we were talking about a strong front grip for Merc, i expected the low drag rear wing compensated by a lower downforce front wing

I figured it would be something like that but why bring an old front wing? I thought there wasn´t much of a difference between the two but i´m quite inept when it comes to remembering changes.

I assume the newer wing generates more d/f to balance with the additional d/f with the regular rear wing and new floor

Since they are using a low d/f rear wing they wanted to shave the front end d/f to the older levels - all of this is speculation of course

Makes you wonder why they simply did not turn down the AoA a little bit.

Looking at particularly Rosberg, he was runnin double camera mounts (not really cameras but testing equipment)
Maybe they saw FP2 as a pure testing ground, maybe the old sensors are better in some way then the integrated ones.

I don´t know, just a bit weird they are running so much visible equipment on the cars.

Ted Kravitz said Mercedes had new bargeboards on Ted's notebook. Did anyone notice new bargeboards?

Brundle commenting: "Interesting how the Mercedes looks more competitive at these low fuel loads".

Guess it gives some support to the thesis of higher fuel consumption (possibly due to frozen throttle maps/engine configs) especially with Spa being a track where the drivers are on the throttle for a high percentage of the lap.

Ted is often way behind with his assessment of aero bits and he often calls one aero element another when he gets in a kerfuffle so what we call a bargeboard we might call something else... I wouldn't take too much from it.

There´s something about this car on the opening laps that makes it a dog. (a fast one)
I don´t know if it´s weight, tire temps or some other thing but both have problems keeping their positions on opening laps.

It had more downforce then the Red Bull yet on the first few laps it was something like a second off pace in S2.
Now we can conclude that Hamilton and Vettel are equally quick and have no problems squeezing out everything from cars so it does make you wonder what just is up with the car during the first few laps.

It´s supposed to be faster then the red bull in S2 all the time, every lap.

Edit: Interesting hearing from Brawn the same thing. Not sure why they struggle on the opening laps and get better towards the end of the race.

The only real change apart from balance from start to finish is fuel.... I wonder if they are simply not at a disadvantage to Renault engines who are said to be much more fuel efficient = less fuel to start with.
