Red Bull Q3 Speed!!!

Post

During last few seasons Red Bull had those extra few tenths in Q3, but although they built great cars at the end of 2012. and in 2013. this doesn't seems to be the case. What do you guys think what is the reason for this?

IMO the 2010 and 2011 cars are, relative to the opposition, quicker - and so they are holding back more in Q1 and Q2. In 2012 and 2013 though, they can't afford to do that, like when Vettel missed Q3 by a hundredth or somesuch in China 2012.

You should know by now that they switch on the traction control. ;)

There was a talk that they only turned their "super map" for Q3 back then.

I think Red Bull actually admitted to using a map with much higher off throttle fueling in Q3 (2010-11)

Their "Q3 super map" was very heavy on the engine and exhaust components, so they only turned it on for maximum attack. It was also the primary reason why they often lacked race pace compared to mclaren (spain 2011 - 1s clear of the field, only to be level with maccas during the race - possibly even slower).
