This is a massive incentive for one of the minnows at the back to spend their whole season developing an Abu Dhabi specific configuration for their car; why spend the whole season grinding away in the faint hope of a point when they can aim for the big prize at the end? It's hardly as if they risk losing that much!

Just a thought ;)

This move doesn't enhance the last race : it just devalues the rest of the season.

Apparently 9 out of 63 championships would have a different champ.

Interesting that Kimi would have taken the 03 crown.

There should be a transparency in the process rather than what is happening now.
FIA has now beyond dought crossed the line into comedy.
Why should they consult the fans? F1 isn't a democracy. You don't have any stake in the sport other than as a bystander.
The sport exists as we know it today because of us, the fans.
walk down any path and it will eventually lead to the fan tuning in on TV.

Not saying its great but it's not like a double points final race is unusual. I also like the idea of a cost cap

Double points for the whole race isn't really fair, and doesn't make a lot of sense. Double points for the last victory is a slightly better idea, but has greater potential to completely throw championships, not sure if that's a good or bad thing.

I think a better idea would be to award points for fastest race laps (a single point). You'll then see a bit more action at the end of the GP as cars out of the points could pit for fresher slicks and compete for the fastest lap.

It would like they are trying to make it harder for a single driver to dominate and wrap a championship up early, but no amount of points system fiddling is going to achieve that.

This is such a gimmick, makes a joke of the sport.
The first post in this thread says it all. Next we will have "The Chase", just like NASCRAP!

Proposals still under consideration:

Drivers may throw banana peels onto the track to disrupt other drivers.

Free DRS use for a whole lap if the driver can run over a mushroom projected onto the track.

And most interesting...If the team can successfully design anti-gravity then they may use it.

Seriously; this really is a ridiculous development.

I remembered Kimi in Spa this year and lol'ed. Another drivers tear-off got stuck in his brake duct IIRC.

I can see this turning into which country can spend the most money to get their races turned into double points races too. Imagine if Abu Dhabi keeps throwing money at Bernie to ensure their race is always the final one.... or if Russia decides to throw a ton of money to make their race double points from 20xx onwards, whenever it is on the calendar.

Oh don't be silly. You know, there was a time I was a narrow minded F1 fan and thought NASCAR was junk and never watched it. Tell you what man, there's a lot of really good side-by-side racing, passes and tight championship battles.

There *are* things F1 could learn or consider from NASCAR. Chase format certainly isn't bad, makes things interesting without being completely ridiculous.

why not go back to the pointsystem where only the first 6 driver gain points? maybe then we will see more action fighting for points. in the past more drivers started a single gp then nowadays.

Sorry, but that was spoken like a true NASCAR fan... The truth is that since 2005 (the year after NASCAR implemented "The Chase" in 2004), both TV ratings and admissions revenues for NASCAR have declined over 40%. Implementing "The Chase" has been a failed gimmick for NASCAR. I can't see it ending any better for F1.

If they feel so brave to make these changes, they should go for more "traditional" points awards, like points for pole position and fastest lap , or leading a race IMHO..they had so much more other possibilities, but then this crap come out of their heads....
