Post

just noticed that grandprix.com has updated it's look.
I prefer the old look although I suppose this new one brings it up to date.

Ya I noticed that earlier today...a lot more adverts
Simon: Nils? You can close in now. Nils?
John McClane: [on the guard's phone] Attention! Attention! Nils is dead! I repeat, Nils is dead, ----head. So's his pal, and those four guys from the East German All-Stars, your boys at the bank? They're gonna be a little late.
Simon: [on the phone] John... in the back of the truck you're driving, there's $13 billon dollars worth in gold bullion. I wonder would a deal be out of the question?
John McClane: [on the phone] Yeah, I got a deal for you. Come out from that rock you're hiding under, and I'll drive this truck up your ass.

Next time you buy a new car - after making your best deal - just as the salesman is waiting for your signature - tell him he has to buy the F1technical banner for a month to "Seal The Deal"

There's a site called Granprix? Hadn't noticed - to busy posting on the F1T Forum

Well, I like the place. I know it's not very educated to speak about another site using this site server space, but I cannot resist. The story of racing there is comprehensive, they are FIA providers for the racing database, or so they say.

Of course, F1Tech rocks, the level of knowledge (Tif exempted: he goes there by a similar nick) is never close to the one you find here: people here KNOWS in a less opinionated way (me exempted ;)). If you have a peculiar question about F1, ask here.

However, if you wish to rant to your hearts content, gp.com it's a nice place, even if people tend to be pretty rough. It's one of the rare totally unmoderated forums. Manchild is a lover of Ferrari compared to some guys there and, on the other hand, mx_tifosi or Allan have a mild preference for Ferrari compared with the blind devotion you'll find there.

I hate the content's change, even if I like the new appearance: I lost my password. I use my browser's feature for remembering passwords, so I rarely enter them and, after the change, the login page address changed and I couldn't remember the password. I'm still waiting for the forum administrator to give me a new one. Anyway, I think the presentation F1Technical has is way much better, in terms of stetics and ease of use. Before the change, gp.com was horrible, now it's vaguely ugly... ;) Another thing I hate is that you have like, I don't know, 15 seconds to edit your posts before the are "fixed" forever and I tend to spend 15 minutes just writing a post and correcting it. That's why I write such long ones...

F1Technical is really superior in terms of news, not only to that site, but to anyone I know. To get the level of information you can get here, you have to go to FoxSports or something like that, and in a "big news organization" you won't find the devotion for detail you find here. The car database here is a jewel in the Net and Tomba has the eyes of an eagle and a knowledge of the intrincacies of an F1 car no webmaster I know has. He seems like a cross of a mechanical engineer with a systems engineer... by a fox. ;) A fox devoted to consignate all the characteristics of F1 cars made since the Deluge until our times.

However, if you wish to read about the "tale of the race" for Monaco 1957, gp.com is a great place. The "editorial articles" are great and very original for my taste. I wonder who writes them.

Not bad at all indeed.
However, I find it extremely slow compared to F1technical (in terms of response time and page building).

Yeah, I like F1tech more compared to others... Well I hardly visit them, however I did not like this grandprix website anyway just because of their stupid adverts on some of the pages... Guns and violence on a gp site.. just not my thing mate.

Have I already recommended Opera? Maybe a hundred times...

This way you can block almost everything without having to blow a few neurons trying to figure out how (sorry, Tomba, I still don't know what the popup sometimes try to open here has on it...). You can even block images, but don't say that to a webmaster: he can kill you after spending so much time trying to fund the site.

Actually, I compensate in a funny way: I click on the banner once, EVERY TIME I come here. If you like the site, please do it: there is no better way to repay in a small way what you like and to allow good people to thrive. But don't tell Principessa I block the ads, please...

BTW, Tomba is right about the speed of gp.com (unless you have the wonderful cache Opera offers... have I already recommended Opera?).

Now I know why Tomba "feels" gp.com a little slower than f1.technical: the server is in New York. From South America, both are at the "same distance", in Internet units. Of course, seen from Europe a server in America is slower and viceversa. In South America, at the "middle of the road", both seem a little slow but none more than the other: latin americans seem faster... just like it happens with F1 drivers. ;)

Just for "general knowledge" (Tomba and many people here already knows this), you can use "tracert" to trace the route to any server (just put the name after writing "tracert" on your DOS screen, for example, "tracert http://www.f1technical.net"). You can also use "ping" to check the total response time ("ping http://www.f1technical.net").

Finally, if you wish to know where the server is, use:

- ARIN http://ws.arin.net/cgi-bin/whois.pl?que ... 193.229.60
- APNIC http://wq.apnic.net/apnic-bin/whois.pl? ... hois=Go%21)
- RIPE http://www.ripe.net/perl/whois?query=21 ... bmit+Query)
- LACNIC http://lacnic.net/cgi-bin/lacnic/whois? ... 193.229.60

Each service is "responsible" for a different area in the world.
