Caterham CT-05 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

gosh it looks so chunky with the sidepods having such vertical sides. Im not dissing the aero as im no expert but only that it looks bulky especially with the new lines painted on it.

Much better reliability than yesterday but still trailing their direct competitor, Marussia performance wise. Does it due to much more seasoned pair compared to the rookie Swede & also suspected Renault PU? Shall wait for Kamui tomorrow eventhough they still couldn't extract as much performance from their PU. Otherwise it's the same old story for Caterhams, 4-5 secs shy from the leader.. TF's team not doing well neither Leafield nor W12

They have no excuses not to score points this season either, with a new factory in 2012, and sacrificing 2013 to focus on this year.

Please source, i also could say that pigs will fly tomorow . And we all kneew that is not true. So please if you have to say something, argumented with some sort sources, quotes or in other case mute. And even then, make sense to evaluate source if is really worth to mention and if it is even possible to realize.

Let me to continue to comment about Caterham noses development path. I remember from Ted Kravitz interview in Jerez tests with Caterham technical director (Mark Smith). He SPECIALLY say that they had no look in Lotus option! Of course that could not be credible, because he could easily lied. But because their lack of money i dont belive that the as a HUGE backmarker are you prepare to risk team existence if fails. That i could be to HUGE and to difficult gamble for small teams. Especially then if we know how difficult are CFD test with 2 tusk noses (asymmetrical design caused anomalies) in its need to "fullscale" simulation and additional extensive testing.

As we saw in this preseason Caterham choose very wisely maybe for just couple first races "safe" route ( design wise=> most obvious in cooling). And that it to some extend works. They are the most successful Renault team in achieved milleage and decent reliability.

Plus there is no point to make some radical changes if you as a team don't had basis of the car clear. Is a same thing like teaching process, first are elemental things only then you could add complexity into. Until you dont mastered the basis of quick and competitive F1 car is no point to move forward. So again i think the complexity of 2 tusk of nose is no way to go for Caterham.

Last autumn Mark Smith told me teams may well run different noses through the year. However with Caterhams budget restrictions and the design in other areas of the car, I suspect an all new nose with crash tests and everything would not be the most rewarding use of their budget.

May be they will just alter the vanity panel over the finger nose, which should not reqiure re-crash testing.

Kamui is not very excited with the new car as he believes it would be better if they could use GP2 car... I fear for Caterham :?

CT05's top speed in Sakhir yesterday: 331,7 km/h according to AMuS... not bad at all because the second best was 335 (a bit behind Alonso's incredible 340km/h)

In previous years Caterham has usually been quite slow on straights so that sounds good for Renault.
