Caterham CT-05 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Seemingly the crash was caused by no rear brakes? I know a lot of the drivers dont like the brake by wire and energy harvesting. But to have a major brake failure at the start is serious. I wonder what other teams use the same setup?

On the bright side the nose rules worked, Koba didn't go flying after he hit Massa.

Offtop: The nose rules can cause decapitation of a pilot by the diffusor.

he had no temperature in the tyres, thats why he locked up. Nothing failed.

You're speculating. The team said there was a problem with the rear brakes.
Let's leave it at that unless you have evidence to show otherwise.

Looked much more like a braking setup failure than anything to do with cold tires, IMO. Without getting much view of that replay, looked like 100% of brake bias was on fronts and the car just bowling-balled through everyone going dead straight on.

I'd bet they get it sorted in short order. My gut feeling is it will be a promising season for this team - or at least an improvement - any Renault issues aside.
Grip is a four letter word. All opinions are my own and not those of current or previous employers.

I read some where that they could tell from the data it was a brake failure and that the stewards saw that data and agreed

Anthony Davidson on Sky post-race said he spoke to KK coming out of the stewards' offices, and KK told him "he had no rear brakes!" - a KERS harvesting fault. Whether the mechanical failsafe applied the rear braking bias it is supposed to is unclear to me.

The car would be more elegant without this vanity panel. Interesting Noise.

I wonder if someone can render a photo without the vanity panel
