We have to be cautious with judging Hamilton for what he says and how he looks. He is a Simon Fuller toy, he is a Spicegirl now.
You know I could buy that if Fuller created and owned Hamilton, like he did the Spice Girls. But Hamilton hired Fuller, not vice versa.

Lewis has to decide how he wants to present himself, he's paying the bill. Choosing Fuller just demonstrates his priorities (and the influence of his ex-girlfriend). Spewing this quasi-racist nonsense makes him look dumb, inexperienced, unworldly; and I thought he didn't like that?

Rosberg will be laughing up his socks at that comment. The entire garage will turn against Hamilton. You watch: there will be a mechanical error in Germany, and I know who's car it won't be on...

Until literally last week, German law stated that if you were born in Germany, you could maintain multiple nationalities that you inherited from parents as well as the right to a German passport, until age 18, and then you had to choose to be German or not. I know this as my kids have the same rights - they have 4 passports.

Until last year's coalition agreeement, which was passed into law last week (http://www.euronews.com/newswires/25822 ... tizenship/) that was the the law. German passport holders were not allowed to maintain multiple nationalities beyond age 18. At 18 you either became German or something else.

And that was obviously signed long after Nico Rosberg would have had to choose, in about 2002-2003 I guess. If Nico chose German, then that is his right, and that is his nationality.

Honestly Hamilton is an idiot sometimes. Where does he live again? Oh, that's right: Monaco. And both his parent emigrated to Britain from Grenada, which gives him an automatic right (by birth after 1974 to parents born in Grenada) to Grenadine citizenship and a passport, if he wants one.

It's a modern world. All this nationalism is just silly.
both hamilton's parent were born in england

rosberg has dual finnish / german nationality , so had a choice of which country to get his licence from ; fiscally a no brainer
to the optimist a glass is half full ; to the pessimist a glass is half empty ; to the F1 engineer the glass is twice as big as it needs to be

I am sorry, but there is a big difference between growing up in Britain and being British and growing up in Monaco and saying you are German.

Maybe I am German too.

I'm sure all the British engineers and mechanics will be out to get Lewis.

Lewis was born in Britain to British parents and lived there his whole life until he was 25?

Pretty sure that makes him British.

Anthony Hamilton had to admit, under oath, in court, during the Paul di Resta case, that he was born in Grenada, and that he is liable for tax there. I think that is definitive.

This may or may not be true, there are exceptions - but it doesn't negate his right to claim German citizenship.

In this day and age, it's incredibly common to have multiple rights to nationality. That's the entire point of the European Union, by the way. Look at this:

I guess my point is: so what? What does it matter? Is this some kind of racist attack? If not, why does it matter?

The point is Nico hasn't lived in Germany since he was 4 weeks old, yet his own personal website says he is German.
http://www.nicorosberg.com/en/about/

It has been my experience, that when you ask someone where they are from they will overwhelmingly tell you where they have lived most of their life. For Nico it's Monaco, so this I'm German line is just sales and marketing garbage.

It matters because I think it does.

I have this issue every day, as I have three nationalities. I speak honestly when I say that my "nationality" is irrelevant. It's an anachronism.

You are entitled to your opinion, of course. I respect that entirely.

I just don't understand why Lewis thinks it matters, and needs to raise it. He just digs silly holes for himself. He's done it his entire career.

Because he doesn't believe the next GP in Germany is Nicos home event and it probably in his mind isn't the same as him winning the British GP.

Didn't Lewis say Nico is not German enough or whatever?
people are making a whole lot out of nothing, as far as I see it it was a simple comment that calling Hockenheim
Nico's home GP is a stretch since he's always lived in Monaco so if anything that is his home GP

I do nor know if it would change my personal feeling about my nationality if I would have lived in Monaco or London or Paris...I think other things define how we feel.

Well, I would also think different if there wouldn't have been this extreme change in Hamiltons behavior and look since he hired Fuller. He just did not stay himself.

Well, this is what I wanted to say. Maybe Fuller-toy is the wrong description. Hamilton decided to be presented in the way Fuller presents his clients and Hamilton knew this style very well, I think we coincide in this. So he chose to be a Spicegirl...
And as I said: Fuller never presented a rocket scientist. All his clients look dumb, stupid and sometimes arrogant or disrespectful. This his how he keeps them in the papers.

No. The mechanics earn money with every point the drivers and the team wins. And they work for this money and nothing else. Conspiracy theories and personal preferences are for fanboys and the media.

It's Mental warfare, as simple as that. Lewis is looking for the chink in Nico's armor. When he finds it, he will exploit it just like any other top athlete would.

I think we agree entirely here. I can see the thinking behind it, I just think it is all wrong-headed nonsense.

There are quite a few well-documented instances where mechanics have done what the team boss - who pays the salary - tells them to do, often to the detriment of one driver or another. Vettel vs. Webber at Red Bull? Mansell vs. Prost at Ferrari? Schumacher vs. anybody at any team he ever drove for? Stepney sabotaging the Ferraris? I also know of a few instances where mechanics have put drivers on Steward's Nines, through a minor mistake or prolonged tyre stop ("sorry Juan Pablo"), just to pay them back for being a bastard.

Does it really pay Lewis to annoy Mercedes when they have "marketing German" in the team?

Rosberg said he had the edge over Hamilton and Lewis reacts now. Big deal.
