A few months ago, I have a theory that the reason why Honda didn't introduce the CVCC/TJI is because of the position of the injectors.
My theory seems to be plausible based on the photo posted by crf1. Thanks for posting the photo buddy.
Honda injectors seems to be located inside the Vee as compare to other manufacturer which is located at the top of the engine head. TJI assembly is tall and require space which honda doesn't have. The impact of changing the location of the injector during the season might have significant impact onto a lot of things such as piston shape, engine head redesign, camshaft relocation, turbo ers mounting redesign, repackaging of the internals. By changing these items, they might used up a lot of token and doesn't give a significant increase in HP. The upside, Honda will produce an extra 15-20hp just like what renault did. Honda did admit that the current design is flawed because they are using the conventional design used in most of the current Honda Direct injection engines (side mounted injectors between the intake valve at a slight angle). Honda is looking forward to next year major engine redesign. I'm looking forward for the nerdy engineering stuff going into the engine.
**This is just my visual assumption. I'm still not 100% sure that the injector is located on top or in the vee but based on my gut feel, it seems like it.
