Chassis is good.

If the Honda engine itself would be such a beast, than they would not been having problems with Renaults, Manors and ocasionally Haas and Sauber on the straights. Heck, STR should be miles behind in those long straights, but they were able to keep the speed. Ofcourse the car had problems - it was a track specific car which worked fantastically at some races and very bad at the others (which is becoming a Mclaren standard in recent years), but u cant say that the engine was the only thing making them getting them to their results. I would say that similar as the chasis, the engine and its electric part were a very track specific as well. It didnt like slow tracks with little breathing space and it certanly didnt like tracks with little brake zones and fast curves. In the end both the chasis and the engine had its shortcomings and when their comfort zone was found they were 4th force in the field, When they both were out of that zone, they were good enough only for 11th place downward. But i allow myself to claim, that if the Honda engine would produce the same amount of power and consistancy like a Mercedes hybrid of FI and Williams, Mclaren would be infront of them both in the overall standings, even challenging the Ferrari at some venues - which is far from perfect, but it would be considerable improvement over the dreadfull 2015 season.mrluke wrote:Mclaren had the smallest gap to Pole last year at the power circuits and the largest gap to pole on the Chassis circuits. I believe I made quite clear that the Honda engine is lacking, but it's nonsense that you're blaming it on just that. As if the chassis is fantastic... Top manufacturers drive through turn 3 full power, as well through turn 9. McLaren has to back off. You are seriously blaming that on the engine's drivability? Poor drivability is for sure visible in the third sector, but the drivers having to go down on the throttle in the long corners (with the downforce levels we have this year) shows the car itself isn't on the level of the front runners either. I remember that the chassis was hailed in previous years as well. Folks said it was "all due to the Honda engine" and McLaren themselves said their chassis was one of the best, but fact is that McLaren showed bad pace at any track or circumstance where a good chassis would show.
This season is starting the same as the last two, and I ain't buying it anymore. Both McLaren and Honda are not performing.
McLaren haven't necessarily build a bad chassis but it will never be as good as it can be until the Honda engine can be refined more in every area.
Also the source of all this McLaren building a bad chassis is just terrible and unfounded.
Look at Mclaren's performances in Monaco vs Spa. There is nothing unfounded about this, it is well documented and at the end of the season we had multiple posts admitting Mclaren had a fundamental problem with the rear of their car meaning they always ran more downforce (and drag) then their opposition to try and overcome it.

Actually he says they could have done lo 19s EASILY, but maybe Mercedes could be on low 17s. Interestingly, though he mentions beating MERC will be very difficult, he points RB to be fighting for championshipGoranF1 wrote:http://soymotor.com/noticias/alonso-oja ... 017-930617bauc wrote:When was this posted?, I cant find it on his Instagram profileAlonso Fan wrote:

Besides that, he says the car has good grip now but will have much more come Melbourne.
Interesting statements
