Sadly, double retirement. Shame as Alonso was doing a great job sticking in 8th.
Vandoorne - Fuel Issue
Alonso - Driveshaft failure
Very Bad, as two races in a row ALO was in the points before his car quits on him #-o
It is bad in terms of lost points, but it is atleast positive to know he didnt retire from lets say 15+ positions. Aparently the car is much better in comparison to how it looked in testing.
If i would get the money to start my own F1 team, i would revive Arrows

Wow, alonso can hold bottas, look like the inlet plenum update works well
I am very hopeful about upcoming engine updates. May be we can see it development rate at Bahrain test. If he could save his position at back straights he could finish better than 8

This is the best MCL chassis in Last 4 years, nobody can deny that. But with a lot of weight saving, they are paying price in reliability term. Hope they can sort it fast. I wonder if JB still here, what would he saying, and he dont have to diet of course because so much of ballast!

The driveshaft issue is probably related to the drivetrain/engine vibration, not so much chassis weight-saving. Although being an outer joint it could just be something as silly as some contamination/debris.

I looked Alonso onboard for 10 laps or so, car very very stable to drive no snaps or anything like that...looks good.

It's not a "chassis too light weight" issue. It's just a lack of running in the preseason.

Lets just hope that as we add power, the chassis doesn't start to exhibit poor tendencies.

Yeah , the chassis doesn't look too bad - I think you could make a case for all the difference from Alonso's quali time to Red Bull being horse power.

Then again, you could argue that the 'normal' pace of the car is what Stoffel's putting in; you're talking about almost certainly the most qualified driver from junior categories, so his performance is an indicative baseline of what the car is capable in the hands of a good, solid racing driver.

So, on the flip side, you could also argue that Alonso is flattering the package. I don't think there's anyone better at driving round car handling issues, changing driving style for multiple different cars in his career. See here for plenty of talk about that:

There used to be a great comparison video of him doing different things in different cars but can't seem to find it now.

something i personally thought is rather too 'coincidental' is that the driveshaft snapped/broke RIGHT after he had this position battle with Sainz. He dived right back inside when Sainz passed, then went over the wet patch, which lost grip, then went over a small bump and got back on the track and the next corner it was done for.
I think if he didn't had that incident he might have finished the race, but it's always talking easy from an armchair.

it rather shows that the driveshaft is a tad weak perhaps. also, it could have snapped a lap later anyway. it was just something too coincidental to me.

above all, it reminds me of Max' his father's issues in F1 when he was participating; whenever Jos Verstappen had amazing results, and was coming close to get those results, his car gave the ghost. Repetitive times it's said he was too 'hard on the car'. Whether that's true remains to be seen , but it wouldn't be outragously impossible imho.
Alonso was throwing the Mclaren around like 'an animal'. He did outstanding, but i think if that incident hadn't occured, he might have finished 8 or atleast 9th.

while also sending off 4 Hamilton players to make it more interesting"

What do you find worrisome about it? It's just a cheesy video telling us what we already know.

So what can they use this printer for? Non-structural parts or can it be used for wings etc.?
