Sad day for the team today, very frustrating for Vandoorne but the most worrying aspect of it all is Honda keep coming back and saying they don't know what these issue's are! I wish I could be optimistic about the post race test but judging from Zak Brown's interview it comes across to me that any worthwhile updates to the engine won't be coming to Sochi.

I wish Someone could give us the answer's but only one we get is it's going to take time, 3 year's later and here we are!

I heard Martin Brundle say during the race that when drivers are following the McLaren they've said that the chassis is as fast as red bull in the corners then loses out on the straight

what do you think?...its 60-70?....oz it was quit close to 160 on china around your number 134.77 ...people forgget very soon ..1 sec off the pace of mid and 3 from top its not only 60-70hp ..even 100 ...
Its impossible to know...

any update of your opinion after today race?....150hp+ down today ...but the worst ..honda never can be
up there ...
The gap is big...Honda has less power than their own PU in 2016.
Some new parts in PU will be tested in the test, but reliability purpose only.
If there is a PU being developed by Illien or some outside help like reported that will come after summer as hinted by Alonso during his live instagram and by Zak today.
That update will decide weather Alonso will drive for Mclaren or Renault next year.
Mercedes,Ferrari or RB seats are not avaible for him next year.

i agree with all that. Updates this week point to solving the vibration issues which was identified early. Mid summer for bigger HP update.

McLaren is in a very tight spot...

Their future is very dependable of Honda and not in a performance kind of way...
if Honda would call it quits and/or a failed project McLaren's future would be that of Williams. If you want to compete at the front, you need a budget around the 500mln dollars (excluding PU costs) and even with a very good sponsor (like Vodafone was, who pitched in around 50-60 a year) a privateer can only come up with half. At least, when you're in the top of the FOM payments, which McLaren lost....

Don't forget, in the eighties and nineties they had an unlimited budget from Philip Morris, then as part of the Daimler company, from Mercedes and now from Honda....

So. Those Honda technicians have the faith of McLaren in their hands.

Or: get a company like Apple or Samsung as a real (Philip Morris style) partner and ask Porsche again to build them a V6 turbo...

Nope. I keep hearing Russia, Spain and Canada.

Its not like they're testing the fixes. They're still developing them.

So expect teething issues when deployed.

Not sure what Merc can do to help. Their problem is catching up.

They showed in year 1 they can fix these issues...it engineering

If your so far behind that you're short cutting testing.... The races become your test bed.

When something fails you analyze it and find out why it failed then make improvements.

With Rai finishing contract and Bottas having only one year contract, there are many possibilities of movement in the drivers market.

Interesting tidbit about Alonsos retirement from the race in Ted's notebook, https://youtu.be/37ALTz1N0Yc
. If you go to around 5 and a half minutes in, Ted has apparently heard from Spanish reporters that Alonso will retire the car if it is not in the points after pushing as hard as possible on the last lap.

I suspected something like this for some reason...

Hmm. Alonso did this a few times through '15 '16. A bit petulant from the big man.

Looks like McHonda are throwing everything at it to keep Alonso happy!
Because that´s the reason both McLaren and Honda are involved in motorsports, to keep some drivers happy, they don´t need any success for theirselves, not even nowadays, right?

Instead of wearing your fanboy glasses 24*7, you could sometimes may be care to read around before quoting me at every opportunity you get?
From the first link you posted:
In the bigger picture it is more rewarding for McLaren-Honda.

“We have a strong relationship and partnership with Honda. We want to show that we can be competitive. It is part of the legacy of the past that McLaren was racing and winning in Indy 500.
What basically is exactly the same I said, read my post again if you will. This is not something to keep Alonso happy as you stated, but a strategy wich is good for McLaren-Honda too, or a win-win strategy as I said.

If someone is wearing fanboy glasses, it´s not me :P

About the second link, I can´t see the relevance of Horner opinion. He´s from Red Bull.

BTW, I don´t quote you at every oportunity I get, far from that. But when you assume McLaren decisions are only dependant on Alonso´s hapiness... well, sorry that is fanboyism my friend
