Honda Power Unit Hardware & Software

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

there are no tokens this year?
He likely meant they don't require a new PU element. So then they'd be outside of the homologation area.
jaja sorry, @3jawchuck you're right.

@Albert Fabrega

- Honda comes with updates that do not require tokens.

- There is new fuel.

- The problem of alonso in russia, was located and solved, did not affect any part of the engine.
this is for sure the post Bahrain changes they will mix it in the midfield i think...
That would be nice, but I wouldn't be so sure. I would have thought they would have already run the updates in Russia as they had said if the changes they trialed worked they would want to run the ASAP. The updates in the test did seem to make a step forward, so it would be nice if they weren't run in Russia & they were a little more competitive here.

Just to be clear, what Fabrega says is that the updates do not require to replace parts from the PU like MGU, Turbo, etc.

What can be changed? Exhaust manifold? Intake pipes? Fuel injectors? Exhaust pipe?

Pretty much everything that isn't one of the PU elements. So, induction (up until the cylinder head), exhaust (from cylinder head), plumbing (coolant, oil, fuel and so on), wiring, pumps, tanks, fixtures, fittings, shields and other boring but important hardware ... pretty much everything.

Appendix 2 of the technical regulations covers it pretty well.

This is an excellent video. Some great PU shots and comparisons of the RA615/616/617. The last two shots you can see the compressor of the RA616 protrudes way above the cam cover, the 617 it's not even remotely close to the top, first clear visual I've seen of the big improvement there. Great to see some nice photos.
The 2016 compressor shot is at 1:40.
Yes, it is. You can clearly see how much higher the compressor is mounted on the 616 at 1:40. Which is what they had to do to increase it's size for 2016. They said they compromised the PU height to fit a larger compressor. This year is far lower and likely larger, as we all know.

They can also make internal changes to PU for reliability reasons.

A friendly reminder before all hell breakes loose again in this topic: discussion about specific parts only, and please leave out any moaning about how sad this is (I know it is sad, trust me. I often have to keep myself from posting about it). Remember if something breaks, post info on what specifically broke (post a picture like the leak), discuss why or how it broke and discuss a possible solution.
