Renault's Cyril Abiteboul has revealed that the French manufacturer aims to continue its ascent in the engine department as the company is preparing a completely new platform, including novel technology that has not yet been seen on the track.
It seems to me Renault were making a lot more progress when Mario was working with them. Since then we've barely heard a peep and their new engine architecture has barely improved upon the old one as far as I can tell.
Cyril would make a good politician, promise everything, talk double dutch and deliver little! Hopefully the Renault engine can start delivering some decent grunt, i can`t see it getting near Merc qualifying mode but in race mode it should be somewhere near...Red Bull probably aren`t HP about the situation but they haven`t really got any other choice....have they!
As I gather it from AMuS, something on the engine management side (do not know the meaning of 'Kennfelder').
Neue Kennfelder für die Motorsoftware haben dem Renault V6-Turbo mehr Power eingehaucht, ohne dass Renault etwas am Motor selbst ändern musste. „Der Sprung ist signifikant“, lobt Marko. Das will etwas heißen. Red Bull spart sonst eher mit Lob für den Motorenpartner.
I take the 0.2 sec improvement is around the "standard" track Barcelona. Could mean 0.35 at Azerbaijan. Hope they didn't mean 0.2 sec at Azerbaijan, but whatever improvement is welcome of course.
Auto Motor und Sport hints about the software update the following:
"Auf der Uhr machten die Verbesserungen in der Motorsoftware im Bereich Zündung und Einspritzung zwei Zehntel aus." http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/form ... 91579.html
Zündung und Einspritzung: ignition and fuel injection. So may be more than only engine mapping.
Fuel injection spray pattern, and timing is worth half a second from their current state. So a few tenths from better utilizing the current hardware is not unrealistic.
