That´s pretty underwhelming for any Renault fan. I sincerely think that their PU needs a bigger update than a mere constant improvement. They are far behind Ferrari and Mercedes.SameSame wrote: ↑01 Jul 2017, 18:48godlameroso wrote: ↑01 Jul 2017, 18:24Is it really? What gives a bigger gain? .3 on the straights or .5 in the curves?
In the v10 era it was a high downforce track.I'll take Taffin's word for itRemi Taffin, Renault Engine Technical Director
“It is quite a power sensitive track and it probably will be in line with Baku in terms of performance expectations. We will consolidate the power improvement made for Baku and aim to deliver more. There is no big plan with brand new upgrades, just continual improvement of the entire package. The altitude of the track will be a challenge as the turbo will spin faster to generate the required induction, so that’s something we’ll monitor. Experiencing a trouble-free weekend will bring points.”
Also; this could be the true test of the new MGU-H/Turbo with the higher altitude as Taffin points out.

Where does this BS keep coming from? Its completely untrue. All Metc teams get exactly the same. And one of the (many) reasons that teams dont get to cock about with engines is because of the previous point (they will only make it worse anyway)
It probably comes from Merc apparently having the ability to run their PU harder in Q3.Facts Only wrote: ↑03 Jul 2017, 11:33Where does this BS keep coming from? Its completely untrue. The customers run them more conservative so as to avoid buying extra units.Craigy wrote: ↑03 Jul 2017, 11:47It probably comes from Merc apparently having the ability to run their PU harder in Q3.Facts Only wrote: ↑03 Jul 2017, 11:33Where does this BS keep coming from? Having the same software doesn't mean that all the PUs for a given manufacturer are mapped the same way, does it?
This was one of the reasons Ron Dennis said the move to honda was made, Even with the hardware upgrades the customer teams only receive them 2-3 GPs laterCraigy wrote: ↑03 Jul 2017, 11:47It probably comes from Merc apparently having the ability to run their PU harder in Q3.Facts Only wrote: ↑03 Jul 2017, 11:33Where does this BS keep coming from? Even with the updates, their fuel efficiency is still in the toilet?

They aren´t efficient indeed, but I would say that its slightly better than in previous seasons. Or its a false perception?
I sincerely think Renault is underrated today. I don´t think they´re far at all from Ferrari and Mercedes, check last two races at power tracks, several Mercedes PUs didn´t manage to pass some Renault PU despite DRS and the tow. Obviously they´re still behind, but they´ve catch up drastically during the season to the point they can keep in front of a Mercedes powered car even at the long straights of Baku and Montreal
