No, he didn't. He still managed personal best.
Ferrari had nine sets this weekend. Not having a spare set put aside for the closing seconds of Q1 seems paticularly crazy :(
Either they didn't have a new set, or opted not to use them, which seems a bit far fetched.

What a great lap by HAM! Even if VET had new tyres how much would he have gained? 2-3 tenths? What the Brit did is awesome

Hamilton did his thing today and that was it. Vettel didn't have any new SS for his lap Q3 lap, I'm not sure what was going on there with ferrari.
I need to know which tires they'll carry for the race to understand that.

Ferrari with a good chance of using Raikkonen as a guinea pig tommorow.

Mercedes seem dedicated to making at least one stupid mistake every weekend.
Toto Wolff admitted in an ORF interview that they completely missed GRO on the tracker and did not warn Lewis ... that's why he looked so pissed despite pole when RTL talked to him

- Hamilton up to his slowing down tricks again, let's wait for another equal and more equal FIA's farce  . Hopefully with another nice graph.

- So they're going with softs for Bottas if it's dry. OK, ninth and chance to lose some during first lap.
- Vettel slower than Raikkonen (again), We missed another epic Ham-Vett battle, someone tells that Marchionne
- Mercedes - Red Bull = 1,53 s. How much of that is the car ;-) ? Can't wait for Horner's analysis.

How bad was the HAM-GRO incident? No live feed...
Not for nothing, Rosberg's Championship is the only thing that lends credibility to Hamilton's recent success. Otherwise, he'd just be the guy who's had the best car. — bhall II

Wait, what? Vettel didnt have new SS for his final run?
No, he didn't. He still managed personal best.
Well that is a pretty big f up by Ferrari.

In any case, looking where Bottas is, this was all Hamilton.

#-o Combined with Baku that's a c.30 point swing Mercedes have cost themselves due to comedically incompetent errors. One more result like this and they might as well not bother turning up to a GP. It would have the same effect but would save them wear on parts. I can see Toto now "We took the wrong turning near Dusseldorf and didn't notice until we were in Valdivostock."

Hamilton was basically stationary at the start of the final corner complex. Grosjean was on a hot lap and clearly had to brake more heavily than he should have done.

Is there any hope in that the damage done was not substantial?

Man... on one hand, rules are rules, but the whole "we dont want to influence the WDC race" tone in Baku just makes it all the more sour. They really shot themselves on that one, i am afraid. :(

The F1 site is reporting the results and headlines as if there's nothing to do about anything. Not even mentioning the under investigation. Wait and see I guess.

That is always so hard to say, quite a lot I think. On the intermediates on a drying track Verstappen was faster then Hamilton who was doing his round later even. But the pole lap was great, the downshift after Maggots and Becketts was the perfect decision and he hit almost all the corners perfect (without any corrections)
