Hamilton Pole Lap:

After all the talk he's not full flat anywhere...
He's flat at turn one, doesn't hit the brakes for Copse,

It was a super smooth lap, though he doesn't necessarily hit all the apexes.

It doesn't get any clearer in terms of impeding so FIA produced this #-o :
"...potentially have been affected by the presence of Hamilton at Turn 16, he was not impeded,”

- it means basically that it was a clear penalty but we didn't give it because we like some drivers more.
- Potentially? Potentially means driving was dangerous and cost time unless (potentially) aliens would teleport the other car. What other potential situation would cause this loss of time to be theoretical and not deserving a penalty? This way you can justify any cheating.

- This completely fraudulent organization has a nerve to give grid penalties for slowing down under yellows to help another marketing chosen one and shout about safety.

There's a slight lift in T1 and he came down to 7th for Copse.

What an amazing lap by Lewis. He smashed the competence and I cant see Ferrari beating him tomorrow unless there is some mess with the changing weather.

True, slight lift. It must have been damp out there because I saw onboards of other cars that were flat in turn 1 this weekend.

Err... I don't remember having given one in Hungary qualifying last year, under DOUBLE WAVED YELLOW!!! Lifting from throttle for EXACTLY "0.1" second was deemed enough. What's the big deal now?

Most likely the small amount of rain washing away some of the rubber has to do with it. Might have been different, should there been a bone dry qualifying. A driver not having full confidence on the circuit and having doubts about dampness on the racing line, would affect the amount of speed carried I guess.

I don't think so. Mid 26 is seriously quick laptime and it still wasn't even close.

Hamilton always finds time no one else can around here. However as we've seen the Ferraris are better in the race I still don't think Vettel can do better than 2nd place though unless something unfortunate happens with the weather. Ferrari's job will be to keep Bottas behind them if they don't want to lose too much. As we saw on Friday the race pace is in Hamilton's favor but Vettel is not far behind.

Good job for Vandoorne 8th is his best qualifying in a proper high speed circuit. Believe it or not maximum aero isn't as important as low drag, you need just enough aero to be fast through CMB. I think that's where Ferrari lost out, too much focused on downforce, Mercedes tries to be a bit more balanced between aero and drag. Hamilton was doing over 202mph in both DRS zones Vettel was some 7mph slower. That's 325kph, and 11kph for non freedom unit using people.

With the mixed conditions there's still a lot to be gained or lost tomorrow, I can't wait, and I hope Alonso can use his skill to make up some ground. Hopefully Vandoorne gets his first points of the season.

I dont think so. They arrive there in 8th gear if I understood Hamilton correctly. No way to take all that speed and power around flat

He said after the session that they can go through Copse flat but they scrub too much speed so it's quicker to lift and then power through.
He said: "You can take Copse flat in eighth but it is not necessarily quicker - you scrub a lot of speed off and the rpm drops off too much. I don't personally take it flat.

"And then Maggotts and Becketts; that section is on fire - Turn 10 is always flat, 11 has been flat for years, 12, from 2007 to now, you were letting off later and later and now you are on the gas into 12. Turn 13 (the final right-hander) is a fantastic corner because it is very bumpy, a lot of compression on the tyres and it is all about the exit.

If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

Yeah, I don't buy that at all. I think what he actually meant to say is that staying in 8th trough copse is not optimal because you have to drop too much speed to not run off the track, and hence the rpm is too low. He's not even flat in turn 11 when he says it's flat for years lol.
