From pitpass
Fernando Alonso: "It was a tough race today. From the very beginning, at the second corner, the two Williams touched in front of me, and made me lose a few positions. As a result, we ended up in the secondary group, running a little slower than our true pace, and could not overtake.
"So I lost a lot of time, and that really compromised our race. A shame, definitely not one of our best races today.
"But we'll have better days, and, hopefully in Japan, we'll come back with stronger form, and I'll be able to add my contribution to the constructors' championship on Honda's home ground.
"Having scored points at this track and at Singapore, two very different circuits, is really good for the team. I hope we can continue scoring more points in the remaining races."

Lol...they are faster already whit Honda.

do you know that honda engine package is much smaller than renault, which need more cooling, watch craig scarbs speak about it. mclaren will have to redesign their chassis to accomodate the bigger engine. the smalle engine that honda gives an advantage to mclaren but honda never get credit for this, this advantage will all dissappoer with renault engine.
Yes, I see how much RBR struggle with the packaging.

its not slim, your just biased because mclaren are going to run the renault. first check the video and see someone with knowledge explain this. you and i can say differently but craig scrabs explains it perfectly. craig scarbs is a reputed chassis/ aero technical analyst. listen to him when he talks about mclaren will need to make room to put the renault engine package compared to the smaller compact honda engine. and from all the renault running team. renault f1 work team is still lagging behind and TR is lagging behind redbull. redbull is the most efficient chassis due the the genius adrian newey. just imagine if redbull run a honda engine, that redbull will get more aero advantage from a smaller honda engine and adrian newey would be able shrink the chassis even further.

So you don’t think this is slim?
No actually is not that slim. Check it in the 3D (top rear side view) not just the top "cross line" at the back - look at the width through the whole vertical line where the engine is.

But the colors might do some tricks too.

If you still think the Red Bull's back end is not slim and as slim if not slimmer than the McLaren, you're in denial.

At least there is Alonso vs Vandoorne to look forward to in the next races, the kid is really good.

Actually a higher downforce setup can and has worked at Monza. It's not as simple as looking at a rear wing angle. Your theory is pure tinfoil hat stuff anyway.

 enough said when i saw that quote. everyone team tries to minimize drag especially for a power circuit like monza. and you here talking that highdownforce set can work. LOL
Remember Button at Monza 2010 with the barn door rear wing. Yes he finished second but he should have won had the pitstop gone better and the fact that he was leading the race.
Thanks that's a good example.

techman isn't very technical LOL.

So again, pray tell, how is it that RBR chasis back and sidepod area is as slim as Macca with that "huge" Renault PU?

With Honda engine they would not shrink only the chasis but also the number of horses and time of electric horses being available to them

U really shot yourself in the knee with that statement =D>

Vandoorne has started his assault. Second consecutive 7th position, and 3 points clear from Alonso. If he continues like this to the end of the season Alonso will have another frustration on his list.

I thought for a moment that Honda had introduced an upgrade of some sort because Van was able to stay in 7th. Then I remembered it's a high downforce circuit. Good reliability though.
Finally, everyone knows that Red Bull is a joke and Max Verstappen is overrated.

At this rate, McL will jump Haas in the championship.

That would be great. I can only think of 2 tracks where McLaren could keep near this pace relative to Haas and that's Japan and Brazil but maybe spec 4 from Honda could help on other tracks too.

I am not sure but I remember something that redbull are trying to do own exhaust. I think they're doing something to make car smaller. If engine's itself let this without any further and risky work, other two teams would do that

I think Alonso realize this now and will beat him in Suzuka....this is finnaly a challenge for him this year.

In my opinion I think that Alonso had a more aggressive configuration for rain.
I'm not saying it's an excuse for Alonso. But it was very slow compared to Vandoorne.
The problem is that Suzuka Vandoorne has a new engine and will penalize. (I'm not sure)
I like Vandoorne, congratulations! =D>
