Totally agree with that one dans79.
As for me wanting the grid girls back, its not to simply look at, its because its tradition. And I love tradition and history. The same reason I'm against the Halo. Fully open cockpits is tradition. Another example is Ferrari, I've never been a fan or liked them, but the sport needs them and they are a huge part of the sports history and tradition. Monaco is a perfect example, for todays F1 track its the biggest pile of puss on the calendar but its traditional and needs to stay on the calendar.
I like tradition, so I'm all for keeping anything traditional and the Grid girls are exactly that.
Me too. I also liked the grid girls because it was one more thing that differentiated one GP from another. Go to Austria, you had local women dressed in Dirndls. Go Abu Dhabi, again, local women representing their country. No different than seeing adverts of male and female models selling watches or any other products. It's all part of the "show", the entertainment. Every country that spends millions of dollars are doing that because they see Formula 1 as a platform to sell the image of their country and increase tourists coming and spending money. Just look at how F1 propelled the image of Singapore. Yes, we could probably have grid-men, but we all know that women are the more desirable sex to look at. In the animal world, it's often the other way around, but with humans, it's just like that. So?
I am still very interested to see what the countries that host these GPs in their countries think of all this. Even if some of them are perhaps (I think that's doubtful) happy to see the end of grid-girls, I am fairly certain no one wanted to have this discussion about this in the public domain. It would have been overall much better if Liberty-Media would have simply dropped them with no reasons given.
For a company that specializes in marketing and PR, I think this is their biggest blunder yet. And I personally don't think this will just go away. Most people watching F1 could probably care less about the "grid boys". I don't, and I don't think those kids that are already into motorsports will be ecstatic about their new function in F1. They should/could have given them a much better function than standing in that hectic area as the grid prepares to race and no one will give them any attention at all.
