Renault Sport F1 R.S. 18

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Variable air intake manifold?
They use VLIM since 2015.

Even the drivers dont look very excited! #-o
Because they are sitting on a R.S.17 ... note the different airbox, the different mirrors etc.
That's not the same car as in the renders of the R.S.18

Wow, very disappointing, seems reminiscent of the RB13, under-developed and underperforming as a result of wind tunnel correlation issues.

It's been a long time since we drove last time, but it has also been a short time at the same time

Well perhaps Renault should know better than to put RS.18 stickers on an RS.17. (see nose cone)

They put RS.18 stickers on their E20 or R24-based showcars too (like they do almost every year). That's an RS.17 showcar. Either he Real RS.18 wasnt fully assembled yet, when they did the photo shoots, or it was already in Barcelona, so they used a show car... that also look very similar to the new Renault. Remember that these teams are on very tight schedules...
Is this really an RS.16 like it's written on the sticker? nope https://media-cdn.tripadvisor.com/media ... 1-2016.jpg
Remember that they dont own 30 chassis of the newest car, so for shows, fairs, photoshoots, filming etc they use fake cars sometimes.

There is something new under that roll hoop intake. Variable air intake manifold?
Different cooling configuration this year.
Seems that main strength of R.S.18 is under skin.
IMO they've increased the size/width of the gearbox and ERS radiators placed behind the engine. They have admitted having some cooling problems last year... so it's probably due to 'thicker' air ducts around the engine's airbox...
Or a thicker airbox/plenum

So we wait for new R.S.18 to see :-)
Maybe it is in Navara with Mclaren in that yellow Renault truck :-)
