A source said on the weekend that the BAR/Button relationship turned South when the Formula One team refused to honour verbal 'performance bonus' commitments.

I love this!! Who would have thought that during the summer break, there could be this much excitement in F1?

Quote from Bernie:

"Unfortunately, agents and big money mean morals go out the window. But we are not like football - I like to think our players stick to their agreements."

I agree with you old man.

Now it seems the FIA wrote BAR that their contract with Button is binding according to F1magazine's website button will have to race for BAR in 2005. When he doens't listen to the FIA's advise he will lose his F1 license.. Ohh dear this will be some 1,5 years for Button.....

This is wierd, I read about this bonus agreement earlier. Wich is funny because BAR is shouting people should keep to their commitments... everything seems to have a double bottom in this case. They are acting like a group of children creating soccer teams in the park...

If i recall correctly, the performance bonus was a verbal one (which of course is non binding).

Im not saying that it is right for BAR to break that verbal agreement tho. Both parties should act honorably and honor their commitment to each other.

(I would also like to point out the JV fiesco that DR pulled back when he wanted JB... seems like this kind of drama revolves around BAR.)

JB kept insisting that Williams will have a WDC winning car next year... I disagree. He will be better off going to Williams in 2006.

NOW the drama begins. in a few more days, we will see how BAR treats Jenny.

This is AWESOME!!

Now, Williams is insisting that CRB is a bunch of pansies and JB will drive for them!

this is so great.

(Richards insist that JB will be treated fairly this weekend. Apparently, JB is scared that he might not be well received by his team this weekend... YOU THINK?)

:D :D :D
Lets look closely for bruises!!!!!!!!

Well, after destroying JV's (former world champ!) career, I think Richards deserves this one!!!!!

This is a punch that BAR will not recover from easily. Let's face it: JB was the only driver, in recent years, that was able to pull the team together and be really competitive. I can't see any other option in the market that will be able to do the same, instantly, except Hakkinen and, even this one is a risky (and probably costy) decision.

But wouldn't that be awesome for 2005? You'll get the Schumi/Hakkinen rivalry, old/young Finn, Kimi/Montoya and Webber/Button all for 2005! :) Now if we can only get a front grid as close as the Michellin teams this year.

Yeah, that should be fantastic, of course... provided that Hakkinen wouldn't finish 30 sec. behind Schumi and that the struggles would not only be for 3rd place...
One wonders how F1 can afford, at the same time, to loose World Champions (Villeneuve, Hakkinen...) and pay huge sums to Ralf Schumachers...

Wow...I have just got back from a two week holiday abroad, and all of a sudden I hear Button has gone to williams, as has Webber (Is that true, cos i heard it from sum1 else on holiday) and that Da matta is being replaced by Zonta for the rest of the season? I've missed a lot (Including the Hungarian GP!!! )

I think Richards is playing too much the role of a victim. He gathers sympathy from others on the paddock and in the media, but i think he is a wolf in sheeps clothing.:?
The trick he pulled on Villeneuve, not just throwing him out with insults, but spreading rumours to other teams that he is not a good driver choice and thus spoiling his chances of a contract with other teams.
Now he didn't pay the 60.000$ per point he promised Jenson in the beginning of the season. Man, I would be pissed off too if i had earned that kind of bonus and them my boss refused to pay me. Wouldn't think twice about abandoning the ship.
And now that the rumours about the unpaid bonuses leaked to the press Richards was quick to pay the 3 million to Jenson so as not to spoil his role of innocense.
Guess you get what you ask for.
