Unlike the drivers and footballers in football, the mechanics and the pit crews doesn't either command the remuneration or the opportunity. An accident like today's would most likely end that guy's career. Nico would have won it today. Ricciardo thrives in these come from behind environments. Bottas is just not enough driver to keep the seat, not when there's better talent out there.
