McLaren Garage.

Post

Seeing as McLaren were excluded from the 2007 World Championship can someone please explain to me why it was decided that they should have garage five in the pitlane? This just doesn't make sense to me.

as we know, Bernie and Max do not agree on everything.

Max wants McLaren to start last but Bernie likes to show him the finger.

Its like every other rule in F1....

Subjectively enforced determined by the prediction of results to synthetically enhance the "show".

Disgusting to be honest.

as none of us know if the Concorde agreement is in force or in fact what it contains
we can only speculate on the reason why but i suspect it is related

also suspect that a lot of the circuits dont have equal facilities down the pit lane

and if the fia and max didnt specifically make the pit lane position as part of the punishment it gave bernie wiggle room to annoy max some more, and vice versa
..?

This has been explained in the press already.
At some races they have been last.
At others with small pits they have not.
No good turn goes unpunished.

McLaren get the last place in the pitlane when that end can accomodate their equipment.

At the older (more restricted for space) venues they have the 5th garage. This has been the agreement from the start of the year....

I do not expect to see McLaren in the last garage again while Bernie is running the show this year. The Monaco pits are brand new and as far as I know they are all of the same size. There is no FIA rule for the pit lanes and Bernie does as it pleases him. As long as Max was his buddy he played ball. now it is probably more important to please McLaren.

being champs they get to choose

Imagine if there was another pit bay infront of u and u couldnt just relax and accelerate with a twitch on the wheel?

Also in tracks like Suzuka, they do not have to have the pit/rpm limiter on, so they can rocket out easily (pit line exit close by).

In some series like V8 Supercars, its almost a disadvantage as they clearly mark the pitlane as 1 lane (disagree, this is stupid for racing), and the champions have an annoying pit with cones in front of them.

it is also handy when you want to line up first at the light when a session starts in case of rain.

If McLaren were in the last box instead of the 5th, maybe Lewis would have had enough time to stop his car at the light instead of plowing into Raikkonen...
