The undercut isn't a new idea so I doubt Ferrari were unaware of the threat. If Ferrari couldn't pull more than three seconds out of reach and then couldn't make up the gap on their in lap and then couldn't pressure Bottas, at all, despite the long straight and using Kimi as a mobile chicane then, no, I don't think I did.
If you have speed in hand, why stay within 3 seconds? If you have speed in hand, why lose
more than two seconds over the most crucial two laps of the race? If you have speed in hand, and DRS, and a huge straight, why not overtake? And that's not counting having a driver of Vettel's quality versus Bottas.
Or, perhaps, Ferrari were quickest in Quali and not the race which would suggest the 'quickest no matter what' idea isn't 100% accurate?
