McLaren MCL33

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I believe it is down to widening the gap between the pylons in order to maximise flow to the cape.

Moving the wing pylons wider increases the surface area of the nose. This creates space above the minimum regulated requirement at the nose tip, so it is better to reduce the impact by adding ducts. Although not as good as free flow air, the overall volume should be increased.
I'm not convinced the pylons are wider than the RBR. They're not set any wider relative to the neutral section of the wing.

All three ducts are divided by the looks of it?

... and i still don't know where that S-Duct exit is... :?:
Also very surprised that there is no S-Duct !! :o :o
I think I saw some exits painted in black on the back sides of the nose but this doesn’t look like a standard S duct configuration
Are the two side inlets pushing the air under the cape/canard with the central for driver cooling?

Looks like the S Duct as we know it has been demised on the Mclaren?

hmm i'm mistaken though, no engine cover changes. i think i got fooled by the different (vertical) sidepod turning vanes, which were more or less 'non existant' in baku.

Spitbaling here, but...

It does look that way, and it would make sense. It seems Mclaren may be putting all their focus on the floor/diffuser now. Would be nice to get a shot under the car, although that generally means crashing, so I can wait for that...!
This also explains a little more why they went for that specific rear suspension setup. With more air passing through that area the gains from greater aerodynamic efficiency are a little more pronounced.

Many people are reporting it is tighter, mostly at the back (before coke-bottle). We need some good pictures in order to compare since angles and the whole body in bright orange makes it tricky.

im starting to wonder if the duct under the nose is ducting some internals at the back.... its very odd they have the opening but then no real nose S-duct...
