Could we be back up to 22 on the grid again next year?

I wouldn't laugh. If this guy is for real, he would be VERY WELL OFF to try and hire the entire Super Aguri team, including Aguri Suzuki as the team boss.

It is amazing what SA actually accomplished in its short existance. I would love to see that ultra-efficient team get a solid US company to back them.

I would bet that they would be winning races in 2011!

... Honda would love to be seen as the company that took F1 to America. Toyota is making waves in NASCAR and that leaves Honda with little to brag about. The company supplies the whole of the IRL field and runs cars in ALMS but this has little market penetration. An American F1 team might make a difference.

We remain to be convinced but the idea will work, but there is some logic to it and it should not be dismissed as a pipe dream - at least not yet.
Check out the full gp.com view here. As always it is difficult to see how this will pan out. perhaps Honda are looking at an option to do some more marketing by driver placement. Sato for Japan and Danica Patrick for the US. That was the Red Bull strategy before they bite the bullet and made a full NASCAR attempt. If this is a serious thing then it appears kind of strange to kill off the Super Aguri team instead of merging it with the US initiative in the first place.

Also commercially it would be a very good time for them to make a splash in the US, as they have just lauched the first commercially available hydrogen powered car and are trying to catch Toyota in the environmentally friendly stakes. I wouldn't be suprised it we hear more of this over the coming months.

THIS is a really exciting development. I not sure it is enough to bring the USGP back but it will certainly not hurt. I can think of one current NASCAR sponsor who would be a ideal fit for a US team. It is also common in NASCAR that major team sponsors also headline a race. This headline sponsor currently eludes the USGP organizers. SAP was the headline sponsor for the 2000 USGP.

It will also be interesting to see if current US F1 sponsors (AT&T, Intel, etc) gravitate to this new team.

THIS is a really exciting development.

On the topic of a new F1 team, how much would it cost to buy Super Aguri or Torro Rosso? I seem to recall numbers like $40 - $50 millions thrown around last year. Anyone seen any intelligent guestimates?

For perspective, Forbes today released their valuation of the two most valuable NASCAR teams. Hendrick Motorsports is valued at $335 million; Roush at $313 million.

I'm very surprised that DEI isn't valued in the top 2...

It'd be great to see the USGP again. I'm not sure if AT&T will gravitate towards them though as they are title sponsors for Williams.
Two new teams in F1 would be great! Ultimate and this proposed American Honda team.

I always thought it would be great for a Dodge (Merc) powered team. They could badge it as the Viper engine.

I think that a US backed F1 team would be nothing but positive for F1 in general , and would likely force Bernie to add back the US grand prix
