From his articles, you can deduce he's a huge Fernando fan. Hardly starts a story about Mclaren or Fernando without describing him as "arguably the finest driver of his generation" or "regarded as one of the finest drivers of his generation"

According to this AMuS article Mclaren are trying a different development direction with the new parts in Austria. They work but aren't made of the 'desired material' and will be ready in Hungry. Car lacks overall downforce.

Amus article says Alonso is now test driver for New parts.they Work but they arent made of right material, they are heavier, they will be ready as soon as hungary GP .

Could be due to a CoG/weight distribution issue with the test parts. He was mainly aero testing them for validation it sounds like.

I think the important word here is relatively. McLaren did gain significantly less time than other teams did

While they should have gained much more time compared to the others when you take in considerating that the Honda engine was god-awful in the first half of the season.

Maybe McLaren should have handed out the Adrian Newey book instead of Freddo's.

You don't even have to be a fan to make either of those statements, just a pair of eyes and ears for 17 years and a lack of salt. He is regarded as one of the finest drivers of his generation, you'd be hard pressed to point to a respectable pundit who doesn't think that.

If you'd said "undoubtedly" or "without question" the finest driver of his generation then you're in the realms of fanboy.
