Incredible news. Great move by Mclaren.

Mclaren needed a fresh set of ideas, a fresh thinking and a new working philosophy to work the way out of the mess that kept on piling up in the last few years. The new structure will be like this.

James Key- Technical director

Prodromou-Head of Aero

Simon Roberts: Head of production, engineering and logistics at the factory.

Andrea Stella: Performance Director, responsible for trackside operations

Gil de Ferran - Sporting director

Paul James: Team manager

Matt Morris is out as well.... Only Peter Prodromou retained from the 3 man team. I guess that answers a few questions. I believe it's a solid move, Key is one of the good ones, who's done well on a small budget. Hopefully, they can work something out so he'll help out on the 2019 car.

Believe it or not, but Renault want him, but not his price tag. They're also not keen on a short term deal. They would probably want a multi year contract, which Fernando is unlikely to commit to.

There is a certain appeal to being the driver who helped rebuild a stricken McLaren back to its glory days, maybe Alonso will see that and stay. It's either that or retirement to be honest. At this stage in his career, going to another team.. there is always a period of getting comfortable, engineers change, processes change. If he isn't going to RBR or Merc, I feel like he'll remain with McLaren or retire. He's comfortable. The current phase of not winning/being competitive is a downside, but the pro will be the inevitable resurgence and being involved with that would pay dividends. IMO.

Thank god, finally a normal structure. Key seems like a good signing, since you bring in a lot of Red Bull knowledge as well. It will probably take some time before he actually joins McLaren. Brown is doing some good things in the last couple of months.
