No. These guys (well, everyone really) are expected to have integrity. Also the team he goes to expects it too as the same thing happens when people leave them. There is a lot of leeway inside the rule. He can sit in the garden for 3 months then turn up at Mclaren and say 'Right, how do things work' or he can turn up fully briefed, and ready to start work. Gardening leave is to stop any information going from the company he is leaving, no to stop him learning about the company he is going to. He will be expected not to use anything he knows from STR until he becomes a Mclaren employee, but he can still 'catch up' on Mclaren, he can not implement anything he discoverers, but he can be ontop of the job when he starts.

It's a ruthless sport.
