Aston Martin Red Bull Racing TAG Heuer RB14

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

They were running the engine detuned in Singapore, all problems Max was having were related to the new spec,e.g falls neutral jecky movement.werent u watching the race. The long and short of it is that Rbr will not be using the engine in Russia an engine track

But a lot of that is simply mapping and Red Bull overheating the unit. You're not going to refine mapping and cooling without running it.

I know all that, and I watched the race as well as all FPs and Qs. RB has cooked the engine on Friday and the software is still new, nothing broke and the power potential is there, it just needs software refining.

That doesn't mean the engine is a dud. Like at all.

My point is Rbr are not deriving any benefits in having spec3 in their car. The benefits to cost ratio is negative, u could all talk about potential but all teams have a pu on a dyno that has little more power but u don't bring it to track unless the reliability and engine maps is sorted

Well, the lack of cooling vents didn't help though.

Do you have a source for this information?

Max reported on his radio that he was having false neutrals and poor driveability, I think it was exiting corners.

Yes I heard that too but I just wanted to be sure that RBR or Renault had confirmed the Spec3 is to blame.

Otherwise we are just guessing and putting false information on the internet.

It would even better for Bill to provide a link to a quote from Horner.

Even in a compromised state the engine lasted fine for a full race distance. I'd say that was fairly impressive for a cooked engine. It also has much more drive from 9krpm up out of corners - to the point where you can see/hear the difference even on TV.

Abiteboul confirmed for Autosport that spec C is delivering 15 kW / 20 HP compared to spec B.

"But we can see it's capable of delivering a healthy increase of 15kW, which was the expectation, and that's exactly what's happening.
