TBH, I dont think they will ever recover in this set of regulation. You can just find so much downforce every week with limited CFD and wind tunnel time and more or less zero testing. They are not going to recover unless there is a new set of regulations that needs cars to be rebuilt from ground up and even then you gotta be lucky.
Who's to say really. There sure were reports of Redbull and Merc regaining 2018 DF levels which seem to be mostly from stretching the packaging and bigger RW.
I am talking about McLaren recovering performance in general. They are so behind that they really can't produce a car capable of being anything better than 4th and imo, 4th would be an achievement too .
They're not aiming higher anyway, and I don't blame them.

Where? The only thing I see is the reflection of the rear crash structure.
A reflection whit a pillar.
Can you tell us about the loophole McLaren has found which for they got green light from the FIA?

No shakedown?
They could still do it on sunday unless they don't get access to the circuit then or today? probably hard pushed to get everything in place given launch was thursday. Maybe they will have an extra day on top of testing next week?

Interesting that several people spent the entire year saying "McLaren's cooling create too much drag, that's why they're so slow", then comes someone from McLaren and says that it was pretty much class leading. Goes to show how many guesses are spread around as if they were the absolute true around here.
They also said that the 2017 car was one of the best on the grid. We all saw how that turned out
That’s because the 2018 car was flawed, not because of how bad the 2017 chassis was. Do some research or keep quiet.

Fernando Alonso could be one of the drivers the McLaren team considers using as a reserve for the 2019 Formula 1 season.

My gut says Fred simply did not want to run last or around last place ever again in F1. He'd rather sit at home than do that. So this test he's going to evaluate the car. If it's fast and can get in top 5 every week, Lando will enjoy a year of mentoring and tutilage in the paddock watching Fred drive his car. I don't think Fred is at all out of F1 in his mind. I think he will be right back in the car if it's fast. Looking forward to testing.

I have never seen a car from plump last going into the top 5 over a period of 3 Months, it takes time

So you weren’t watching F1 in 2008/9 then? A little team know as Brawn F1?

I’m not saying it’s going to happen, but it has

BGP 001 was developed by Honda who had sunk almost a billion dollars ( if we believe the rumored number) on that car and had been under development for a long long time. It didn't just get procured out of thin air.

I’m not saying it’s going to happen, but it has
2008 Brazilian GP Final race of the year:
Barrichelo in the Honda was .7 seconds off Pole (Ferrari Massas fastest qualifying time that day)
The following year they swapped the engine from the slowest on the grid Honda to the most powerful Mercedes.
The engine swap alone was thought to be worth .7 seconds or more hence the reason for the 3 month catch up

2018 Brazlian GP second last race of the year:
Hamiltons fastest Qualifying time was 2.2 seconds faster than Alonso's fastest Qualifying time in the Mclaren

The Gap for Mclaren to close is over 300% larger than the Honda/Brawn Gap in 2008.
Ayrton Senna: Pure driving, pure racing, that´s what makes me happy.

mclaren essentially stood still last year. them and williams have the absolute most chance of making up time based on that fact alone. im not saying that i think they will, but just putting a car on track that is able to be developed, and isnt fundamentally flawed will give them the chance to make up more time than anyone i would think. it may be better to judge their gap to the front towards the begining of last year as opposed to the end of it since they stopped developing around summer break.

Mclaren are aiming to be up with Renault or in front of them from the start of the season, they want to be front of the midfield pack by summer break.

Really? Flawed?
They realized that mid-year, only because other teams with same engine were far ahead
After pre-season testing all we were hearing was "car handles great, podiums ahead"
Given this record of understanding whats going on, noone can claim MCL32 was best on the grid.

Hopefully.. but looking at drivers, I can't make myself believing that Sainz and Lando are better than Ricciardo and Hulk.
That and the fact that Renault IS supplying the engine. Torro Rosso end of 2017 someone?
