McLaren MCL34

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

yeah agree, mclarens key objective has been to get a good start with lots of running, i think they are simply playing it save with those outlets, they can easily be adapted when more experience has been gathered

Why is there no S-duct on this car?
Mcl & RP are the only 2 cars without it.

Could relate to the curvature on the top of the nose. Could be they think it's just too heavy, especially with all the complex ducting at the nose tip. Its' not a massive performance differentiator.

Thanks! Do you spot anything new on the car? They said the delay for running today was because of the changes they made over night.

I have not. Makes me think if they had an issue or noticed something on the PU/Gearbox and decided to change it.

I think they were assembling the new floor that came yesterday, but who knows.

I heard that interview on Skysports too. They said axles though? Ive not heard anything else about it apart from that interview.
There was a mention in one of the testing feeds that Lando came in and the team did an Indycar style pitstop with just one guy at each corner removing and replacing the wheel. Maybe they've come up with a new system to speed up pitstops, cant think of any other reason for re-designing wheel nuts.
The end of the hub/axle looks like it has a depressable button.

The one guy per corner will just be a "qualifying" style pit stop. If you have to pit stop in Qualy, we'd often only use the mechs from the side of the garage of the car that's pitting. This is so you don't have to draw from guys off the other car. We would practice them all the time and they're especially useful in testing when one side of the garage will be on night shift and therefore not available - likein qualy.
The button is interesting, probably a release for the wheel nut retainer.
