Last years best test time was 1:16.9 and Pole was 1:16.173. Mclaren were in 8th position with 1:17.721

So, we are considerably faster than last year, in colder weather and with the new aero rules, this is now an absolute fact.
But how much faster are the others?
This is the real question. The track is apparently quicker than at Spanish GP, so by comparing times from qualifying with times in testing, we could get an idea in relative terms, how is McLaren doing.
Genuine question, how could the track be quicker?

It was resurfaced over the winter. More grippy harsher asphalt

The surface is quicker, or so it has been said in various reports.

I believe it was resurfaced, so it took some time for the track to grip up, fresh asphalt gets filled up with tire residue, and becomes stickier.

That makes sense, didn't think it would take up to a year to see a new surface be in a better condition for grip

Zak is doing some proper work now :D Car and the overalls are finally having sponsors on them... If they improve this year... and position themselves as leaders of midfield... there is a good chance Zak could bag a title sponsor.
