Well, it is better to have a billionaire owner and star players, than to not have them!
Mercedes-Benz originally had Schumacher as their star player, but they replaced him with Hamilton. So just because McLaren lost their Spanish WDC star player, doesn't mean they can't either find or create (Norris) another one.
Fry and Key are also very good star signings by McLaren!
I am not convinced about Mr. Prodromou
however, Wikipedia says his position at McLaren is "Chief Technical Officer" (same as Newey at RBR) -- is that correct... or is he simply Head of Aerodynamics?
